Taizo Nishimuro Will Become President and CEO of Toshiba Corporation

TOKYO -- Toshiba Corporation today announced that Executive Vice President Taizo Nishimuro will become President of the company on June 27, following approval of his appointment by the annual general meeting of the shareholders and the board of directors. The current president, Fumio Sato, will become chairman.

Mr. Nishimuro, 60, joined Toshiba Corporation in 1961, following his graduation from Tokyo's Keio University. Much of his career has been devoted to international sales and marketing of electronic components and consumer electronics, and to promoting Toshiba's business in the world market. He was Vice Chairman of Toshiba America, Inc. from June 1992 to June 1994.

At present, Mr. Nishimuro is responsible for Toshiba's Information Media and Consumer Products business, which covers personal computers, computer peripherals, color television sets, air conditioners and other household appliances. He is also Vice Group Executive of Toshiba's Advanced-I Group, an organization dedicated to promoting Toshiba's multimedia capabilities and business. In 1995, Mr. Nishimuro played a central role in establishing the unified industry standard for the DVD digital video disc.

His interests include reading history and a love of the arts. Father of two daughters, his motto is to have the wisdom to recognize our own mistakes and the courage to correct them.

Mr. Sato, 67, who has led the company since June 1992, will succeed Joichi Aoi as Chairman of the Board. Mr. Aoi will be appointed Advisor to the Board.
