Main features of the new product

  1. Easy image download
Allegretto has a built-in PC Card. When the user needs to preview or download images, he/she simply "flips" the card open from its fitted position on the camera and plugs it directly into the PC Card slot of a personal computer, and the computer recognizes the camera as a new drive.

With conventional digital still cameras which require specific optional connection tools such as serial cables, transfer of images to the hard disk takes several tens of seconds per image and several tens of minutes to transfer all images. With Allegretto, it takes just a few seconds to copy a 24-image file to the hard disk, and the user can straightaway view them on the screen of a notebook PC in 30 seconds or so.

    • Test data obtained using Toshiba's TECRA510 (Pentium(R)133MHz)

  2. Long battery life
Allegretto's power source is a CR123A lithium ion battery, a type of battery also used for 35mm compact cameras. Adoption of a low-power consumption CMOS image sensor and the camera's power-saving design means that a single battery has sufficient power for storage of 500 images. Battery is not consumed during the data transfer to the personal computer when the camera is plugged into the PC Card slot of a personal computer.

  3. SmartMediaTM removable flash memory card
Allegretto uses SmartMediaTM stamp-size memory card (3.3V) as the storage medium. Just by pressing the shutter button, the image is stored as a JPEG (exif) file. At present, SmartMediaTM is available as 2MB and 4MB cards. In fine mode, 24 images can be stored in a 2MB card and 48 images in a 4MB card. With standard mode, capacity rises to 48 images for a 2MB card and 96 images for a 4MB card.

Because SmartMediaTM cards are very thin--only 0.76mm thick, users can carry them in a diary or business card case, removing a full card from the camera and replacing it with a fresh one whenever necessary. SmartMediaTM cards are so small and convenient to use that it's easy to have enough capacity at hand for any shoot.

  4. Two application softwares bundled
    1)ImageExpertTM (by Sierra Imaging Inc.)
ImageExpert combines image-editing and album-management capabilities. Its functions include automatic downloading of stored images from the camera to the personal computer's hard disk and display of "film-strip" thumbnail images on the right side of the computer screen, when Allegretto is inserted in the PC Card slot of a personal computer. The user can "drag-and-drop" thumbnail images right into OLE 2.0 compliant word processing software and other applications and edit images.

2)LivePixTM 1.1 SE (limited function version) (by Live Picture Inc.)
LivePix SE 1.1 is a graphics software which is compliant with the latest FlashPix format. This software not only provides image manipulation and editing capabilities but also facilitates calendar- and card-making applications using the images. Additionally, the user can have LivePix upgraded to a full version by Live Picture Japan at his or her cost.
