Toshiba introduces World's Highest Capacity built-in 1.8-inch HDDs

Leads way in advances in HDD for portable computing and for next generation mobile products

Tokyo--Toshiba Corporation today extended the scope of its industry-leading position in hard disk drives with the introduction of two built-in 1.8-inch HDDs offering high capacity, fast performance and an extremely small footprint. The MK5002MAL is 5mm high and offers a 5GB capacity, while the 8mm high MK1002GAH has a 10GB capacity.

Toshiba's 1.8-inch HDD build on the advanced technologies proved in the company's 2.5-inch HDDs to combine high capacity with a rugged design and reliability. The new small form-factor drives achieve an areal density of 22.38 gigabits per square inch and low power consumption of 3.3V, taking high capacity and high grade performance beyond portable personal computers and into hand-held mobile terminals, wearable computers and digital video cameras among other applications. The new drives incorporate a compact connector that is suitable for slim portable computers and other small, thin digital equipment.

Shipments are scheduled to start in April.
