Toshiba and Matsushita Agree to Establish a Joint Venture For Procurement of Parts and Materials for CRT Production

Tokyo, JAPAN -- Toshiba Corporation, a leading electrical and electronic products maker, and Matsushita Electric Industrial Co., Ltd., best known for its Panasonic brand products, today announced that they will establish a joint venture to together procure parts and materials for their respective manufacturing operations of color Cathode Ray Tubes (CRTs) and projection tubes for video projectors.

The new joint venture company will be incorporated in Osaka, Japan in April 2002, with equal ownership by each company. The new company will have a centralized function to make procurement contracts for their respective operations of parent companies throughout the world.

The new company will also work on standardization of components, cost reduction scheme, and development of global supplier sources.
