Mobile Broadcasting Corporation Announces Cessation of Satellite Digital Multimedia Broadcasting Services and Business

29 July, 2008

TOKYO--Mobile Broadcasting Corporation, a subsidiary of Toshiba Corporation, today announced that it has decided to cease satellite digital multimedia broadcasting. Toshiba will provide appropriate support to Mobile Broadcasting Corporation to minimize the impact on customers and business partners.

Since its establishment, Mobile Broadcasting Corporation has provided diverse services in an attempt to build a subscriber base and enlarge its business. However, the number of subscribers has not reached a sufficient level to sustain operations and, following a thorough review of operations, the company has decided to cease broadcasting.

Following today’s announcement, Mobile Broadcasting Corporation will prepare for the cessation of broadcasting. The company expects to cease all services by the end of March 2009, and will then wind up its operations.

Cessation of the business is expected to cause Toshiba to incur an expense of approximately 25 billion yen. The impact on Toshiba’s business forecast for fiscal year 2008, to the end of March 2009, is currently under review and will be announced once it is clarified.
