|Toshiba Corporation to bring its leading-edge technologies to CEATEC
26 September, 2008
TOKYO-- Toshiba Corporation today announced the extensive line-up of product and technology innovations that it will spotlight at CEATEC, Japan’s biggest consumer electronics show. Under the overarching theme of “Digital Life Innovation” Toshiba will demonstrate how digital convergence will change the home, the way we live and the way we entertain ourselves, and bring new levels of environmental concern and friendliness into the products we use and rely on.
Toshiba also announced a special emphasis on the environment and achieving practical solutions that improve quality of life while reducing environmental impacts. The exhibition itself will be part of the eco-message, as the Toshiba booth will be lit with a new generation LED lamps that match the brightness of incandescent lighting while surpassing it in efficiency: replacing 255 incandescent lamps with E-CORETM LEDs will cutback 700kWh electricity and reduce CO2* emissions by 270kg over the course of the five-day show. The lamps will throw a light on eco-products that include the first prototype notebook PCs with Toshiba’s SCiBTM super-charge battery, small-sized direct methanol fuel cells, and televisions integrating environmentally friendly technologies. Toshiba will show how, as a corporate citizen of planet Earth, it is working to achieve sustainable growth and a better future for all.
CEATEC will run from September 30 to October 4 at Makuhari Messe. Toshiba will have booths in Hall 3 and Hall 8.
(1)Digital Network Stage (Hall 3)
Toshiba is driving forward the concept of total connectivity and all the time everywhere anywhere access to the internet and to all sorts of content. Part of this is "Kanren Navi" an HD wireless solution that makes it easy to search for content from different sources and applications.
High Resolution Imaging Display
Toshiba’s latest line-up of digital products-LCD TVs, DVDs, and PCs-all offer high picture quality technologies. Visitors to CEATEC will see for themselves how consumers can experience attention-grabbing near-HD quality from existing DVD collections.
The Super Resolution Technology, “Resolution+”
“Resolution+” Toshiba’s Super Resolution Technology that boosts digital terrestrial broadcasts and standard DVD sources to near HD quality, is introduced in the latest additions to the “REGZA” LCD TV series.
Qosmio with SpursEngineTM SE1000
Qosmio notebook PCs will showcase advances that Toshiba’s original “SpursEngine SE1000”, an advanced graphic processor derived from Cell Broadband EngineTM (Cell/B.E. TM) processor technologies, bring to computing, entertainment and the user-PC interface.
XDETM (eXtended Detail Enhancement)
Toshiba brings new level of innovation and image quality to DVD players with XDE. Users can enjoy near-HD image quality through control of “detail enhancement”, “intelligent color” and “contrast enhancement”.
TVs with Cell/B.E. and Concept Model Wall TV
TVs empowered with the high performance Cell/B.E. multi-core processor take visual entertainment to a new level. Technology demonstrations at CEATEC will include real-time image super-resolution that transforms SD images into near-HD quality, and multi-decoding to playback multiple videos simultaneously, bringing up to 48 moving images to the screen. The concept model REGZA Wall TV will also be featured-a TV that needs no stand, no wall-mounting, and that can just be leant against a wall.
Toshiba's global leadership in fuel cells is embodied in a prototype direct methanol fuel cell (DMFC) powering a mobile phone. The DMFC runs on a methanol-oxygen fuel mix, and generates and supplies power directly to mobile phones.
Energy-saving light-emitting diodes (LED) directly convert electrical energy into optical energy. The E-CORE 100 and E-CORE 60 LED downlight series (Japanese market only) that will light the Toshiba booth have a long life of 40,000 hours, and consume only one-sixth of the power of an equivalent incandescent lamp. Both downlights carry the Toshiba "Excellent ECP" mark, showing that they achieve the highest level of product value and reduced environmental impacts under Toshiba’s Factor T.
Mobile PCs and Storage
Notebook PCs with SCiB batteries and industry leading 256GB SSD
Early prototypes of notebook PCs integrating a SCiB super charging battery point the way to improved battery life--the SCiB can be recharged 6,000 times--and to greater convenience and efficiency, with a target recharge time of 90 percent in just 10 minutes.
The future of on-board storage will also be showcased with the new industry leading 256GB solid state drive (SSD), along with Toshiba new line-up of smaller capacity SSD Flash Modules for network PCs and other personal equipments. The new 250GB 1.8-inch hard disk drive (HDD) will be showcased as well.
(2)Electronic Components, Devices and Industrial Equipment Stage (Hall 8)
The Electronic Components, Devices and Industrial Equipment Stage will also feature Toshiba's full line-up of SSD products, including the industry leading 256GB SSD.
Demonstrations of the cutting-edge SpursEngine SE1000 processor, derived from the Cell/B.E., will include novel applications developed by companies supporting the technology.
The SCiB super charge battery is now emerging in the market place as an efficient, versatile solution. Its potential will be demonstrated as it powers a motor scooter. The DMFC cell for personal mobile equipment will also be showcased.
Toshiba's breakthrough display technology delivers the power of 3-D images on flatbed displays with no need for special glasses. Its application will literally change the way we see arcade games, e-learning, simulations of buildings and landscapes.
Toshiba is a leader in development of DNA chips that open the way to advanced diagnostics and personalized treatment and will demonstrate an inspection system for DNA chips.
Toshiba Group, a Corporate Citizen of the Planet Earth, is committed to realizing a better environment. Guided by "Toshiba Group Environmental Vision 2050" the Group is implementing measures to boost environmental efficiency by 10 times in FY2050, against the benchmark of FY2000. The core target is to reduce projected CO2 emissions by a total equivalent to 117.7 million tons a year by FY2025, through the development and sales of highly efficient power supply equipment and systems, and the manufacture of environmentally conscious home appliances and office equipment. By working to mitigate global warming, make efficient use of resources and control management of chemicals, Toshiba Group creates value for people and promotes lifestyles in harmony with the Earth.
||The amount of reduced CO2 by the use of LED is calculated on the basis of 8 hours usage per day by 5 days through Sep. 30 to Oct. 4, compared to incandescent lightings, and CO2 emission factor of 0.39kg-CO2/kWh.
