Shiro Kawashita, Toshiba Corporation Executive Officer and Corporate Vice President, Named Honorary Consul of the Republic of Kazakhstan in Osaka
TOKYO– Shiro Kawashita, an Executive Officer and Corporate Vice President of Toshiba Corporation (TOKYO: 6502), was named Honorary Consul of the Republic of Kazakhstan in Osaka on October 22. An honorary consulate will shortly open at Toshiba's Kansai Branch Office in Osaka, serving the Kansai region.
Following an April 2007 agreement between Japan and Kazakhstan on the development of a strategic partnership in nuclear energy, Toshiba has worked to deepen exchanges with the country. In June 2008, the company was honored to welcome Kazakhstan's president, Mr. Nursultan Nazarbayev's, to Fuchu Complex, when Mr. Nazarbayev led a presidential delegation to Japan. This April, Toshiba donated sakura trees to Kazakhstan, for planting in Astana and Almaty, the country's two main cities.
Toshiba was asked by the Foreign Ministry of Kazakhstan to nominate an Honorary Consul to provide services in the Kansai region. Toshiba accepted the request as a means to further friendly relations between Japan and Kazakhstan.
Toshiba will continue to strengthen its partnership with Kazakhstan, and to promote mutual understanding and friendship between Japan and Kazakhstan.
