Memorandum of Understanding with National Nuclear Center of The Republic of Kazakhstan

The Japan Atomic Power Company, Toshiba Corporation and Marubeni Utility Services, Ltd., (entire subsidiary of Marubeni Corporation), have signed today the Memorandum of Understanding with National Nuclear Center of The Republic of Kazakhstan (hereinafter called as "NNC") for "Preliminary Study of Nuclear Power Plant Project Realization in Kazakhstan".

This Memorandum is to agree the content and scope of technical cooperation on preliminary study toward the feasibility study of introduction of nuclear power plant to the Republic of Kazakhstan, as a part of cooperation which have been implemented based on "Cooperation Agreement for LWR Nuclear Power Plant Introduction in Republic of Kazakhstan" signed among The Japan Atomic Power Company, NNC and other relevant organizations at the occasion of joint public-private sector delegation in April 2007.

Based on Memorandum, The Japan Atomic Power Company, as an electric power company, will provide, through the overall management of this cooperation, support to the study and will make proposals such as construction cost estimation, arrangement of law and regulation, plant introduction scheduling and establishment of operating body etc. Toshiba Corporation will be for the support to the study on the materialization of plant concept and Marubeni Utility Services, Ltd. will be for the support to the study on economical feasibility which includes financial evaluation and financing.

This project will be carried out as "FY2009 Support Project of Consortium Creation for Low Carbon Type/Environment Responsive Infrastructure Type Business" under tender project by Ministry of Economy Trade and Industry.
