TOKYO—Toshiba Corporation (TOKYO: 6502) invites visitors to CEATEC 2010, Japan's biggest consumer electronics show, to experience the company's latest advances in digital technologies and in products and services that makes life easier, more exciting and more enjoyable. Toshiba's 3D[1] TVs without any need for dedicated glasses and the unprecedented level of visual entertainment that they offer will be on display, and are sure to be one of the highlights of CEATEC. Toshiba will also reveal details of its visual products strategy at an October 4 press conference in Makuhari.
CEATEC will run from October 5 to October 9 at Makuhari Messe, and Toshiba will be at booth 2A37.
The world's first[2] LCD TVs to deliver full 3D without any need for dedicated glasses. "Glasses-less 3D REGZA GL1" series offers two models with screen sizes specifically designed for personal use: the 20-inch 20GL1 and the 12-inch12GL1. The TVs employ an integral imaging system[3] and perpendicular lenticular sheet[4] to display smooth, natural images, and Toshiba's image processing technology to create nine parallax images[5] from the original content and convert it to 3D images. The result is precise rendering of high quality 3D images, whatever the viewing angle within the viewing zone[1]. Both TVs will be available in Japan from the end of December. The 3D technology without glasses will also be demonstrated on a 56-inch TV.
Toshiba's launch of cloud-based "Regza Apps Connect" will bring an exciting new level of interconnectivity to digital TVs, digital recorders, PCs and smartphones. In the first phase, Toshiba will launch "tag list share," a dedicated service allowing users to tag recommended video scenes, and share information and comments. The service will extend to iPhones and iPads via a dedicated app, with software for the iOS available from the end of October and will operate in the Japanese market.
(3)-1. CELL REGZA LCD TV Series: Superior 3D capabilities.
CELL REGZA series 3D capabilities[6] include 3D Super Resolution Technology. This takes 3D content delivered by side-by-side system[7], the most widely adopted system for 3D broadcasts, and boosts it to near high definition quality. It also supports 2D3D Conversion Technology[8] that captures and analyzes image composition and movement in 2D content and converts it to 3D in real time, all with precise rendering and natural, high definition images.
(3)-2. REGZA F1 Series: 3D in a sophisticated 29mm deep design.
The F1 Series 3D LED TVs are a sophisticated balance of stylish design and eco-friendly efficiency with a striking 29mm profile, realizing TVs as light as they are stylish. The annual power consumption of the 46F1 model is as low as 160kWh per year, and it uses 33% less packaging materials than other TVs with the same screen size.
Toshiba Places is a new online service for delivery of e-books, video and game distribution, and online shopping.
The latest series of "dynabook" notebook PCs for the Japanese market such as PCs that support 3D with dedicated glasses. A technology demo will feature a 3D PC without glasses. The Folio 100, a tablet PC for the European market, will also be showcased. This 25.7cm (10.1-inch) screen personal media tablet runs on Android 2.2 (Froyo), and supports a rich multimedia experience, including a wide selection of applications and services dedicated to media consumption, web browsing and social networking.
A Toshiba booth in "CEATEC Smart Grid Innovation 2010" will introduce the company's vision to Smart Community. Toshiba is involved in smart solutions from production to consumption, with expertise in smart grids, energy management systems for photovoltaic power generation, and cloud-based energy management systems for homes, buildings and communities.
