Toshiba to Supply Photovoltaic Systems, Rechargeable Batteries and Energy-Efficient Home Appliances for Temporary and New Housing in Earthquake-Hit Northern Japan

30 Mar, 2011

Tokyo, Japan, March 30, 2011---Toshiba Corporation (TOKYO: 6502) today announced that Toshiba Group will supply, free of charge, residential photovoltaic power generation systems and energy-efficient home appliances for temporary and newly constructed public housing that the government will provide for victims of the 2011 Pacific Ocean Earthquake off the Tohoku Region.

The equipment from Toshiba will include the photovoltaic systems, rechargeable batteries, LCD TVs, air-conditioners, refrigerators, rice cookers and LED lighting for 100 households. Use of the photovoltaic systems in combination with rechargeable batteries and with energy-saving home appliances will reduce demands made on the electricity grid by households where it is installed, an important consideration during the period of stringent control of electric power consumption that is expected to continue over the coming weeks and months.

Toshiba Group is contributing the equipment to support the government in its plan to provide temporary and new public housing in the region devastated by the March 11th earthquake and tsunami. Toshiba Group will consider provision of more energy-saving home appliances at the request of the government.
