Toshiba Group Holds 21st Environmental Exhibition

TOKYO—Toshiba Corporation (TOKYO: 6502) today announced that it will hold its 21st Environmental Exhibition for the general public at Toshiba's Tokyo headquarters on February 9 and 10. The Exhibition will showcase Toshiba Group's latest environmentally conscious products and environmental initiatives.

In seeking to realize harmony with the Earth and richer lifestyles, Toshiba Group aims to become one of the world's foremost eco-companies—a company that incorporates environmental awareness into all aspects of business management; that exceeds other companies in environmental efficiency throughout product life cycles; and that supports individuals and society in achieving new, sustainable lifestyles.

Toshiba will also use the exhibition to unveil the grand design that unifies its strategies for becoming one of the world's foremost eco-companies, including the index of achievement that it will use to record progress made.

The exhibition is organized into four sections, each reflecting an aspect of the measures that Toshiba is promoting toward realization of "Toshiba Group Environmental Vision 2050": Greening of Process, which covers environmentally conscious manufacturing; Greening of Products, which focuses on environmentally conscious products; Greening by Technology, which covers energy and environmental technology; and Green Management, the foundations of Toshiba's approach to environmental management.

Toshiba aims to contribute to the realization of a sustainable society through ever-closer integration of business management and environmental management, as the company accelerates the pace of expansion of its business to become a global leader.

Highlights of the Exhibition

1. Introducing Toshiba's Approach to the Environment
Environmental Vision 2050, Toshiba's corporate vision that envisages affluent lifestyles lived in harmony with the Earth, envisages the ideal situation of mankind in 2050; the grand design that incorporates Toshiba's strategies and index of achievement for securing a position as one of the world's foremost eco-companies; the three "Green" concepts and their foundations

2. Greening by Technology
Toshiba Group's Smart Community concept; energy solutions for realizing the smart community in buildings and at home; cutting-edge technologies to cut CO2 emissions in power generation and in transmission and distribution systems, including photovoltaic power generation and wind power generation

3. Greening of Products
Highly environmentally conscious products, including the "VEGETA" refrigerator, the "SIENT" electric fan, the enterprise SSDs—winners of the Energy Conservation Grand Prize—the "SPACEL-GR" elevator that reduces power consumption by up to 50% through energy regeneration

4. Greening of Process
Reduces environmental burdens through mitigation of climate change, management of chemicals and efficient use of resources. Examples of such activities will include recycling greenhouse gas, CF4 in LED panel manufacturing; cloud-based visualization of power consumption and CO2 emissions for employees at Toshiba's Fuchu Complex; efforts to reduce waste sent to landfill to 0.5% or less at a HDD factory in Philippines.

5. Green Management
Biodiversity and communication with local society:
Participation in a biodiversity protection network including Kawasaki city, Japan, where Toshiba factories are located, towards securing the coexistence of business operations and animal life; environmental social service activities of TV manufacturing site in Poland
Environmental advertising:
LED advertising "WITH 10 YEARS OF LIFE", winner of the gold prize in the outdoor section, Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity; SCiB advertising on "Future cities" and "Bolt keep", winners of the gold prizes in the series advertising section and two facing pages advertising section, business advertising prize from Fuji Sankei Business i, a major Japanese daily

Special Events

During the exhibition period, Mr. Takao Ogawara, Director of Eco-Planning Research Co. Ltd. and Mr. Taikan Oki, Professor of the Institute of Industrial Science, the University of Tokyo, will give presentations, in Japanese, focusing on pressing environmental issues. Toshiba Medical Systems Corporation and Toshiba Corporation's Corporate Environment Management Division and Semiconductor & Storage Products Company will also organize environmental seminars.
