Toshiba Draws up Fifth Environmental Action Plan
Defining environmental targets including increasing sales of environmentally conscious productsTOKYO—Toshiba Corporation (TOKYO: 6502) today announced its Fifth Environmental Action Plan, covering the period from FY2012 to FY2015. The plan details Toshiba's latest action items on a global basis for realizing Environmental Vision 2050, a vision of the world in 2050 where people live affluent lifestyles in harmony with the Earth. Toward achieving this vision, Toshiba has defined specific environmental targets, among them FY2015 sales of outstanding environmentally conscious products that are six times higher than sales in FY2011. Toshiba aims to enhance value by using energy-efficient products and decrease environmental impacts in the manufacture and use of products.
The Fifth Environmental Action Plan targets global sales of outstanding environmentally conscious products, which Toshiba defines as Excellent ECP[1], with a value of 1,800 billion yen in FY2015, six times sales in FY2011, and sales of energy supply products with a value of 1,900 billion yen in the same year, 1.5 times FY2011.
The latest plan contains a notable number of new items, among them measures to increase biodiversity by building regional ecosystem networks in cooperation with regional communities, regional and global environmental communication by employees, and environmental education and human resources development. One target calls for training 2,000 "Toshiba eco-style leaders" to be responsible for promoting environmental awareness.
Toshiba, a company that aims to be an even stronger global contender and that is accelerating the pace of its expansion in the global market, contributes to the realization of a sustainable society by integrating business management and environmental management.
