Toshiba to Support Jinzhou's Smart Community Project in China

TOKYO — Toshiba Corporation (Tokyo: 6502) today announced that the company has entered into an agreement with Jinzhou city, China, under which the company will provide the city with technical support for the planning and execution of a series of smart community projects.
 
Jinzhou, China's northernmost port and a geographically strategic urban center in Liaoning Province, Northeast China, plans to carry out smart community projects that will introduce renewable energy sources and promote the development of a low energy consuming, environmentally conscious city.
 
Toshiba will support the projects with state-of-the-art capabilities in smart community technologies. In order to maximize the potential of its participation, Toshiba will participate in projects from the planning stage on and will seek to support the early realization by proposing smart grid system solutions that integrate renewable energy sources and low energy consumption solutions, including Toshiba's own Building and Energy Management System (BEMS) and Integrated BEMS.

Toshiba positions development of the smart community business as an important strategic goal, and is currently participating in over 30 proof-of-concept and commercial projects around the world. These include two projects in China, in Tianjin*1 and Gongqingcheng in Jiangxi province*2.

Under its current mid-term business plan Toshiba aims to generate worldwide sales in the smart community business of 900 billion yen by fiscal year of 2015, under a strategy that includes proactive business promotion in emerging economies.

A smart community feasibility study that is introducing low carbon technologies on a small scale. Led by Mizuho Corporate Bank Ltd. and the administration committee of the Tianjin Economic-Technological Development Area.
