Toshiba to Participate in Preparatory Group for Japan Hydrogen Association

14 Oct, 2020

TOKYO—Toshiba Corporation (TOKYO: 6502) today announced that the company has participated in the preparatory group for the launch of the Japan Hydrogen Association (JH2A), along with eight companies listed below, which will work toward promoting the use of hydrogen energy. Toshiba will work together with a number of stakeholders for hydrogen industries and will call for cooperation for the official launch of JH2A in the beginning of December.

Hydrogen energy is expected to play a key role in addressing global greenhouse gas emissions. It is necessary for Japan to proceed with innovative efforts for the implementation of hydrogen energy in society, and to promote initiatives for nurturing and developing industries in cooperation with various stakeholders in order to continue to be a global leader in hydrogen energy.

Since the 1960s, Toshiba Group has been a pioneer in the development of fuel cells, which is a key area in hydrogen technology. Now, Toshiba Group is executing a large-scale P2G (power-to-gas) verification project which demonstrates the utilization of hydrogen generated by renewable power sources at Fukushima Hydrogen Energy Research Field (FH2R), started in March 2020, as a part of our efforts to realize a decarbonized society. Toshiba Group is also participating in a demonstration project using high-power fuel cell modules for mobile application, such as vessels, and in the development of P2C (power-to-chemicals) technology, which converts CO2 to chemical material, jet fuel, and other valuable chemical products through the integration of CO2 conversion technology and hydrogen production technology.

Toshiba Group will continue seeking cutting-edge technologies for the development of hydrogen energy as a company designing the future using sustainable energy.
