Toshiba Group Human Resource Management Policy specifies human resources as the most valuable assets and stipulates the provision of opportunities to employees to realize their potential and encourage them to develop their capabilities and maximize their value.
Because of the economic crisis, the business performance of Toshiba has been swiftly deteriorating since last fall.
Under these circumstances, we announced to execute "Action Programs to Improve Profitability" at the time of the 4th quarterly earning announcement in January 2009. As we implement the Program, we are also working to provide job security based on our Human Resources Management Policy. The management and employees are working on the policy for stable employment in order to announce the shared awareness internally as well as externally.
In addition, in case of dispatched workers, Toshiba Group thoroughly ensure compliance with "Toshiba Group Worker Dispatching Act and Employment Security Act Guideline."

In Toshiba's view, the purposes of employee evaluation are pertinent personnel deployment and the bringing of employee motivation and abilities into full play through the assessment of job skills and performance and on the basis of fair treatment for all.
Based on this view, in employee evaluation Toshiba adopts "Evaluation Perspectives by Job Function," a method of clarifying the skills and results corresponding to each job function, and distributes a handbook explaining the evaluation system to all employees.
In employee evaluation, Toshiba uses a point-addition scoring method to fairly evaluate the skills and job performance results of each individual, without regard to gender, age, ethnic origin, nationality or other demographic attributes.
Toshiba promotes fair personnel evaluation and treatment in accordance with the personnel evaluation and treatment system established by the Human Resources and Administration Division.
Toshiba encourages group companies to conduct the TEAM Survey for the purpose of soliciting the opinions of employees.
In fiscal 2008, 30 Toshiba Group companies in Japan conducted this in-depth survey of employee values and attitudes concerning company policies, attitudes toward and evaluation of workplaces and superiors, and attitudes toward employee evaluation and treatment. Participating companies hold meetings at each department and, in light of the findings of the survey, implement measures to enhance communication in the workplace and vitalize organizations.
Toshiba provides periodic training on personnel evaluation to the persons in positions of supervision or management. Also, a handbook on personnel evaluation system is provided to all employees to ensure they are well informed regarding the system.
Since 2003, we have been conducting a survey of employee values and attitudes concerning company policies, attitudes toward and evaluation of workplaces and superiors, and attitudes toward personnel evaluation and treatment as part of our effort to solicit employees' opinions. In fiscal 2008, our 30 companies conducted the survey.
The results of the survey are discussed at meetings and utilized to improve the organizational environment.
