Toshiba established the Human Resources Management Policy in 1973. It is our principle and this policy continues to inform all the measures we implement concerning human resources.
Human Resources Management Policy (extract)
Human Resources Are The Most Valuable Assets
We provide employees with opportunities to realize their potential and encourage them to develop their capabilities and maximize their value.
Utilization And Development Of Human Resources
We endeavor to match the right person with the right assignment to make the best use of human resources.
Wherever We Operate, We're Mindful Of Social Mores
We respect human rights and ensure that decisions within the business are made using objective criteria; no discrimination is tolerated against any sector in society (e.g. on grounds of gender, race, age, nationality, religion or disability). Wherever we operate in the world, we comply with applicable laws and regulations and respect local customs, culture and social mores.
At Toshiba, we nurture diverse values and work styles in order to achieve a workplace where diverse human resources can work well together. Diversity Development Division is working toward the planning of personnel treatment systems so as to accelerate utilization of capabilities of diverse human resources.
Toshiba encourages group companies to conduct the TEAM Survey for the purpose of soliciting the opinions of employees.
In fiscal 2008, 30 Toshiba Group companies in Japan conducted this in-depth survey of employee values and attitudes concerning company policies, attitudes toward and evaluation of workplaces and superiors, and attitudes toward employee evaluation and treatment.
Participating companies hold meetings at each department and, in light of the findings of the survey, implement measures to enhance communication in the workplace and vitalize organizations.
Toshiba Group aims to develop highly effective individuals who are self-motivated and are able to achieve results. Accordingly, in addition to education and training required for specific types of work, we offer programs to help individual employees achieve their career goals.
Also, we provide Career Design Training, consisting of programs to support employees' career and skill development tailored to their needs at various stages of their careers.
At Toshiba Group, training according to positions, training according to job requirements, and training to tackle specific issues are positioned as three pillars. Toshiba Human Resources Development Corporation along with group companies, in-house companies, and operational sites conduct training programs.

Training according to positions is provided for employees ranging from new employees to senior executives to enable the employees equip themselves with the knowledge, skills, and attitudes necessary and appropriate for their position. Going a step further, in 2005, Toshiba introduced “Just for You” Education tailored to capabilities of individual employees and “Just in Time” Education tailored to Toshiba's business needs.
Training according to job requirements
Training according to job requirements is provided to further enhance the capabilities of employees such as engineers, sales personnel, technicians, and staff (general administration and personnel administration, finance & accounting, intellectual property, procurement, etc.) to perform their respective jobs.
Training to tackle specific issues
Regardless of their job requirements, Toshiba also addresses employees' aspirations by providing education on various fields such as accounting and legal affairs, leadership and communication skills, languages.
Career design training
With the aim of creating a vitalized organization where employees are self-motivated towards their life and work, Toshiba provides programs tailored to their needs at specific stages of their careers, such as employees in their 3rd year after joining the company, employees of the age of 35 and 45, etc.
To attain sustained growth with profit, we believe that expanding our overseas businesses is important. Global human resources mean not only employees working in overseas subsidiaries and or those engaged in overseas businesses but also those who can carry out their work understanding different cultures and communicating well with people from different backgrounds. At Toshiba Group, we emphasize the cultivation of global human resources in any job irrespective of nationality or job location.
In order to develop capabilities to think, understand different perspectives and accept diversity, we conduct "liberal arts* education" and "innovation leader education."
* Liberal arts: Knowledge required for operating globally and developing the capabilities to think
By respecting the desires and aspirations of employees, we endeavor to select the best person for each job and thus optimize the deployment of human resources.
