GIS/GCB Gas Insulated Switchgear

Introduction

TOSHIBA GIS/GCB
With the widespread use of computers and office automation equipment, stable and high quality electric power supply is more important than ever. Toshiba's highly reliable gas insulated switchgear contributes to ensure it's delivery. Compact and sophisticated, but robust enough to survive in the most hostile environments, their products are being used everywhere from mountainous sites to congested metropolitan areas night and day.

Toshiba SF6 Gas Insulated Switchgear

Total Number of Substation and Total Number of Bays
Toshiba gas insulated switchgear (GIS) is accepted world wide as state of the art equipment with many superior features. Since the delivery of the first units in 1969, Toshiba has supplied GIS, globally to more than 900 GIS stations with over 6,000 units covering voltages from 72kV to 1100kV and subject to various environmental conditions. All these installations continue to provide trouble free, reliable service in network operation.

Compactness/Outdoor compatibility
Toshiba GIS makes it possible to provide substations in densely populated areas, mountainous terrain, underground etc.  For both outdoor and indoor use in accordance with client's requirements.
The adoption of GIS leads to an effective use of a limited space.
Protection against pollution.
Since all live parts of GIS are contained in a metal enclosure, they are fully protected against environmental effects, such as salt deposits in coastal regions, sand storms, humidity in the atomosphere, etc.; insulator cleaning is eliminated and, thus, high reliability is achieved.
Safe operation and easy maintenance.
Live parts(e.g. buses and connections) are contained within earthed enclosures and are inaccessible, thus achieving maximum operator safety and reduced maintenance.
Aesthetic compatibility
GIS meets with recent requirements for aesthetic compatibility with surroundings.
Today, environmental protection is one of the major concerns among utilities.
Adoption of GIS offers an excellent solution.

Total Layout design
When designing GIS & GCB equipment,Toshiba employs 3-dimensional design technics. This allows for analysis and optimisation of maintenance accessbility before manufacturing.

3-D analysis
In the cource of designing GIS & GCB plant, considerable design effort is required in calculating the behaviour of electrical fields in the equipment.
In most cases, the electrical fields can be calculated by axi-symmetric analysis, but in the case of more complex situations, analysis of a full 3-dimensional model becomes necessary.

In the design process of GCB, further significant design effort is required for the analysis of the gas flow sequence and to recognise arc phenomena in GCB contacts. The gas flow sequence and arc phenomena are compared to an insulated design by experiment and analysis, and as a result, a highly efficient arc extinguishing chamber is developed.
