  • Toshiba constructed a full size mockup test facility to train the work team in a simulated RPV environment in order to achieve quick and accurate results at 1F-3.

  • Chemical decontamination and in-vessel shielding installation were
    performed to make the bottom head area accessible for workers.

  • After these tasks were completed, the dose rate in the bottom head
    was reduced to 0.2-0.4 mSv/hr*.

  • No respirators were required to be worn inside the RPV. The picture
    on the left shows an engineer standing in the bottom of the RPV.

* This value is about the same as a person receives during a routine chest x-ray (0.3 mSv).
