U3 is a standard proposed by U3 LLC in the US which defines a standard for a USB flash memory platform. This new standard means that in addition to carrying your data, it is now possible to carry your personal PC operating environment with you.

The launchpad menu is loaded on U3 smart drive. Your favorite software* can be easily installed on U3 using the launchpad menu. You will be able to use the same computing environment at office and at home.
For example, if you use the web browser installed on U3, you can carry your bookmarks and browser history with you. U3 is reassuring from an information management point of view as the browser history does not stay on the computer itself.
* Installable software must be U3-compatible software.

A CD-ROM area has been added to U3.
The structure of U3 is shown simply in the diagram on the right.
[CD-ROM Area]
The launchpad menu and settings that U3 uses are saved here. This area is read-only. There is no chance of accidental deletion.
[Software Area]
Software that is installed is saved in this area.
[User Data Area]
Files like those saved with word processing software or images can be saved in this area.

The launchpad menu is similar to the menu displayed when the Windows start button is clicked.
The launchpad menu lets you run software saved on U3, install or delete software, and access U3 settings.
You can download available U3 software from the U3 download center.
The U3 download center can be easily accessed by clicking add programs on the launchpad menu. Then just download the software that you would like to use.
A wide variety of software has been prepared for download such as web browsers, email, word processing, and spreadsheet software.

It's convenient to save your bookmarks and email data on U3, but what happens if you drop it? It's a worry.
But with U3 everything is okay. After enabling security, a password screen will display when U3 is inserted into a computer. Without the password, data saved on U3 cannot be read, and any saved programs cannot be run.
* Caution: If you also want to download email to your home or work computer, you need set the email software to leave messages on the server, otherwise when you use the U3 software to check your email, the message will be saved on U3 and will not remain on the server.
OS: Windows® 2000 SP4 or higher, Windows® XP
