I work in the planning and marketing department of digital TVs for ASEAN countries. I help perform analysis of market situations, consumer trends and new technology and to check the intellectual property and patent issues related to products. When products are ready to launch, my team works with other teams in HQ and other regional operation groups on promotion activities, such as making promotion materials and supporting press conferences.

Working overseas has been always my dream, and I'm very happy it came true. In terms of Toshiba, Toshiba has been regarded as an innovator, and very famous in many aspects, even in Taiwan. For example, the elevator in Taipei 101 and the Taiwan high speed railway both adopt Toshiba solutions. I was really confident that I could learn a lot here in Toshiba, and I believe I have made the right choice.

My bosses and colleagues are a team of smart, professional people. Most important, they are patient with my immature Japanese. But of course, I am studying very hard to learn it. Besides that, as Toshiba is an international company, I can receive feedback not only in Japan but also from Toshiba’s working partners in other countries. They are very willing to share their experiences with me, guide me and offer me advice whenever I need help. It just feels like a big family, a warm working environment.

Optimism is very important. Working in Japan is different from traveling or studying in Japan. Sometimes it can be painful and frustrating. But keep the faith and remember the original intention of why you choose this different way; you will find that you actually develop more potential and can grow a lot better than you ever imagined.
