Role Summary The researcher conducts research and development of cutting-edge domain-specific and customized computing technologies used in Toshiba group, which has seen an increasing need for domain-specific and customized computing technologies utilizing FPGAs/ASICs. Realizing innovative industrial systems including AI-enhanced swarm robotics, real-time big-data processing, ultra-low latency control, etc., will become increasingly important.

The researcher introduces leading-edge design methodologies (high-level synthesis language, CPU-FPGA/ASIC co-design, FPGA-FPGA communication, etc.) and develops new-concept/ new-architecture custom accelerators for new algorithms in collaboration with software researchers/ theorists. As a member of a team comprising several researchers, the researcher must be able to collaborate with other team members to maximize output.

This job also provides the researcher with opportunities participate in international conferences and international projects. After five years, the researcher is expected to have a comprehensive perspective of the company's business, and to be able work with people from different departments as a research team leader.
Responsibilities
  • Develop original domain-specific and customized accelerators and effectively demonstrate their benefits at major conferences and in papers.
  • Introduce cutting-edge design methodologies for domain-specific and customized computing and deploy them in Toshiba.
  • Propose and design new research projects in computer science.
Essential Requirements
  • A doctorate or PhD candidate in electrical & computer engineering or computer science
  • Two or more peer-reviewed conference or journal papers
  • Knowledge and skills in FPGA or ASIC hardware design
  • Excellent English communication skills

Role Summary The researcher conducts research on highly-reliable and low-latency wireless communication techniques applicable to control of robots, drones, and wireless power electronics field. The research includes feasibility studies in machine learning in highly-reliable and low-latency wireless controls, performance evaluation by computer simulations, prototype development, and field trials of prototypes.

The entry-level researcher will first be involved in the simulation-based evaluation, and is expected to cultivate abilities in discover problems and providing solutions by analyzing results. After five years later, the researcher is expected to be able to propose new research projects and complete the overall process as a team leader.
Responsibilities
  • Undertake feasibility studies of wireless controls and use computer simulations to evaluate performance.

Role Summary The researcher conducts advanced research on computer vision and speech recognition. Our research on computer vision focuses on pattern recognition of persons and objects, understanding scenes, and 3D measurement based on machine learning, including deep learning, path and action planning for autonomous robots, and 3D reconstruction technologies. Research on speech recognition includes signal processing for distant talk, voice trigger, speech dialogue using deep learning and reinforcement learning.

Overall, the research activities include fundamental technology creation and improvements in problem solving towards realizing products, as well as application system and solution development to show the effectiveness of the technology. Role Summary The researcher develops the advanced technology for future Field Programmable Gate Array (FPGA), as a member of a new concept FPGA development team that designs functional circuits, such as interface controllers, and undertakes FPGA architecture optimization, and design tool development. Success in FPGA optimization requires and understanding of technologies for transistor devices, digital/analog circuits, computer architecture and design tool software.

The researcher will initially participate in the current projects, so as to understand research directions and gain necessary knowledge. Young researchers are provided with the autonomy and opportunities necessary to play a main role in proposing new research ideas and patents.
