Role Summary The team design and develops industrial sensors based on Toshiba's specification or "on demand design" to provide sensor arrangements that meet customer needs in various industries and system.

We are looking for one design & development engineer with an international background to reinforce our abilities to support overseas customers. Along with growing sales of our products in China, the US and Southeast Asia, the need to provide overseas technical support and to obtain overseas certification is also increasing.

The engineer will be the key person supporting overseas customers in the future. In order to gain sufficient knowledge and experience to handle the role, the entry-level engineer will first receive three years of OJT. Once familiar with the basics of industrial sensors, the engineer will be involved in and expected to provide leadership in new design & development projects that will also enhance practical experience, awareness of costs and profit, and problem-solving abilities.

Given the relatively long life-circle and technology-oriented features of our products, the successful candidate is required to have solid knowledge of mechanical engineering and the intention to build a career in this field on a long-term basis.
Responsibilities
  • Design and develop new sensors.
  • Coordinate all aspects of production, such as cost control, supplier selection, manufacturing schedule management, document production and quality control.
Essential Requirements
  • Bachelor's or higher degree in mechanical engineering
  • Excellent English communication skills
Preferred Capabilities
  • Knowledge of electrical and electronic engineering a plus
  • Good presentation and interpersonal communication skills

Position title Design & Development Engineer
Location Fuchu, Tokyo
Role Summary We are looking for up to four engineers with mechanical engineering or electrical engineering backgrounds to be future key persons who connect the engineering center in Japan with overseas engineers in our railway systems business. The roles of mechanical engineer and electrical engineer are separated as follow.

Mechanical engineer
  • Plan and design power converters and peripheral equipment for railway cars, such as high-speed train, subway cars and locomotives
  • Responsible for mechanical and structural design of equipment
  • Design of efficient cooling for power electronics
  • Identify project requirements by communicating with electrical design engineers, sales engineers, quality control and customers
  • Provide production support
  • Provide technical support in resolving engineering issues faced by production

Electrical engineer role
  • Plan and design electronic circuits for power converters and peripheral equipment for railway cars such as high-speed train, subway and locomotives
  • Design architecture of control software
  • Identify project requirements by communicating with electrical design engineers, sales engineers, quality control and customers
  • Participate in qualification tests of new railway cars
  • Design and development of train (locomotive) monitoring & information system (TMS)
  • System design and electric design of train (locomotive) control and monitoring system (TCMS)
  • Functional tests of system and hardware of equipment and printed circuit boards
  • Define specification of TCMS and design detailed hardware structure and circuit
  • Communicate with product planning team on system requirement
Responsibilities
  • Manage production, including schedule management, productivity & quality improvement, and budget guidelines compliance.
  • Determine proper manufacturing processes for assembly, machining, inspection, and testing of components
  • Support compartment assembly.
  • Design and implement processes and systems for materials control and replenishment
  • Promote customer satisfaction and develop positive customer relations
  • Take responsibility for attaining all targets in respect of production operations, including safety, scheduling, quality, and team development in assigned areas
  • Provide direction, leadership, and material support for assigned production areas
Essential Requirements Mechanical engineer
  • Bachelor's or higher degree in mechanical engineering
  • Basic mechanical and electrical design skills
  • Knowledge of mechanical drafting
  • Excellent English communication skills

Electrical engineer role
  • Bachelor's or higher degree in electrical engineering
  • Basic electrical design skills
  • Knowledge of electronic technology (include circuit technology), system control technology, communication network technology, safety logic technology, and rolling stock technology
  • Experience in software design
  • Excellent English communication skills
Preferred Capabilities Mechanical engineer
  • Knowledge of CAD and CAE software (e.g., NX, Pro/ENGINEER, ANSYS DesignSpace, etc.)
  • Knowledge of power electronics

Electrical engineer role
  • Experience in circuit design a plus
  • Knowledge of numerical analysis and circuit simulators (e.g., SPICE, PSIM, MATLAB, etc.)
  • Knowledge of power electronics
