Back in 1959, Toshiba became the first Japanese company to produce an X-ray thickness gauge. That breakthrough has been followed by many more in measuring instruments for use iron and steel industry, including X-ray and laser distance meter thickness gauges, laser diffraction and CCD camera surface defect inspectors, and CCD camera crop-width gauges.
The underlying goal of all our work is to achieve high-speed, high-precision and high-reliability measuring instruments. We have done that through the development of sensing-element technologies, such as X-ray generators, ionization chambers and optical scanning, and through advances in such microcomputer-based technologies as high-speed image processing and real-time data processing.
