Since Toshiba manufactured the first GIS (gas insulted switchgear) in Japan in 1969, we have continuously developed & manufactured various types of GIS from 72kV up to 1,100kV, as a leading GIS manufacturer. From the early stage, we have studied epoxy resin material, which has excellent electrical insulation characteristics. The latest results of our R&D works on epoxy resin material, such as compound technologies, verification methods, and computer analysis of cure process, are applied to our products and ensure their high reliability. Toshiba supplied highly reliable "epoxy-resin casting products" and "Void-Free FRPs", supported by our highly advanced technologies based on our rich & long experiences.

Toshiba insulators are manufactured at Irifune Branch Factory of Hamakawasaki Operations.

Our "epoxy resin casting products" have various lineups from several 10g up to over 500kg in weight. In addition, our casting products can be formed into various shapes, such as a disk, a pillar, a cylinder, etc. upon requests, with sufficient accuracy. From the design & production point of view, we chose the most suitable materials from various kinds of selections, to meet with the required specifications and any other conditions. Even when any new materials are required to meet the specification, we will offer & provide them without delay.

  1. High mechanical strength and heat-resistance
    • Our epoxy-resin casting products are proud of their high mechanical strength and heat-resistance, which are derived from the application of originally developed epoxy resin materials and the surface treatment to fit shapes & quality of implanted metallic particles.
  2. High air-tightness
    • Our "epoxy resin casting products" are proud of their superior air-tightness, thanks to the precise surface treatment and finishing of molds, which make the sealed sides of the casting products so smoothly formed.
  3. Electric insulation
    • "Epoxy casting products" manufactured by "vacuum casting" have neither voids nor any other defects in them, which lead to superior characteristics in electrical insulation capabilities. They have a lot of experiences to be used not only for a.c. systems but also for d.c. systems.

Our "Void Free FRP" applies carefully selected reinforcement materials (glass fiber, nonwoven fabric), which ensure both the lightness and the high mechanical strength of products. In addition, resin for impregnation is proud of its thermal resistance and crack-proof features. Those advantages enable us to offer large sized products, such as coils, capacitors, resistors, or so.

  1. Void free
    • "Void Free FRP", which has solid adhesion between reinforcement materials and resins due to nonexistence of voids or any defects inside, ensures its superior electrical performance.
  2. High hardness and heat-proof
    • "Void Free FRP" applies special epoxy resin for impregnation, and has superior mechanical strength and heat-resistance, which enables this material to be used for structures.
  3. Machinability
    • "Void Free FRP" can be machined, such as cutting, drilling, screwing, etc. and can be formed into various sizes & shapes.
