Toshiba Group disaster relief efforts
Support for the typhoon
The Toshiba Group made a financial contribution of 50,000 dollars to the Philippines Department of Social Welfare and Development to help victims of Typhoon 21, a powerful storm that battered the country November 30 -December 1, 2006. Toshiba Information Equipment (Philippines), Inc. made contributions of 13 tons of rice to affected communities of Reming Typhoon.
Notohanto earthquake relief
Donations of 3 million yen, 1 million yen and 480,000 yen were made by Toshiba, Toshiba TEC and the Toshiba Hokuriku Group, respectively, to the Ishikawa Prefecture Disaster Relief Agency to help provide relief for victims of the March 25, 2007, Notohanto earthquake.
Relief for victims of the 2006 Pakret Island flood
Thai Toshiba Electric Industries sent company medical teams to the Thai island of Pakret, which was devastated by torrential rains in October 2006. Using the local temple as a clinic, they examined local residents and handed out medicine free of charge.
Financial aid for victims of the Niigata-Chuetsu earthquake
The Toshiba Group gave a combined 50 million yen (435,000 dollars) in monetary
and in-kind donations to the Niigata Prefecture Disaster Relief Agency and Japanese Red Cross Society to help victims of the July 16, 2007, Niigata-Chuetsu earthquake. Toshiba Plant Systems, located in Niigata Prefecture, also dispatched employees to help rebuild local housing.
Receipt of Social Contributions Award in China
The China Toshiba Group received "The 4th Social Contributions
Award" from the Guangming Daily, a newspaper of the Chinese Communist Party. The award is given to 20 global businesses that have made outstanding contributions to Chinese
society. Toshiba Group's activities including long time commitment on construction of Toshiba Hope Elementary Schools, afforestation, and concert invitation to children were highly evaluated. China Toshiba Group is proud to have received
this award for 4 consecutive years.
Toshiba America Group CSR Meeting
On June 9, 2007, the 2nd Toshiba America Group CSR Meeting was held in Washington, DC with employees in charge of CSR from Toshiba America Group companies in attendance. The Chairman of Toshiba Corporation, Tadashi Okamura, opened the meeting by commenting on the importance of making CSR an integral part of daily business to earn the trust of society. The participating members made presentations on their activities and the meeting concluded with an open discussion exchanging ideas on how to enhance communications among Group companies and the effective ways to promote CSR/social contributions activities.
