The 5th Award winning activities

The Toshiba "ASHITA" Award was established in 2005 to enhance social contributions activities. The Corporate President Awards are granted to recognize activities with outstanding results. Winners are chosen from all activities conducted by Toshiba Group companies worldwide from August 1, 2008 to March 31, 2009. The awards ceremony was held in December 2009, with the following 10 activities recognized.

Annual bazaar
Kyushu Branch

1,000 employees brought unused items from their homes to hold a two-day bazaar within the company building. It was the fourth event this year, and the proceeds of more than 40,000 yen was donated to a social welfare corporation Nishinippon Shimbun Public Welfare Service Organization.

Support for a bazaar by local after-school day-care center
Chubu Branch

To support the relocation of a local after-school day-care center, whose previous building was damaged by the storm in August 2008, we donated unused items collected by employees for their fundraising bazaar, along with 20 cases of bottled water (1.5 L bottles × 160) for an emergency water supply.

Promoting the education of science and technology in Kawamata-machi
Kawamata Seiki Co., Ltd.

Since 2006, our young engineers have joined the workshop event hosted by Kawamata-machi as lecturers. A total of 30 to 50 local elementary school children learned about the mechanism of electricity generation and with the assistance of the young engineers tried making motors for Toshiba products. Also since 2001, we have been accepting interns from local junior high and high schools, for training of processing and assembly work in the Production Department for about five days.

Environmental Forum for the community
Toshiba Solutions Group

We regularly host an environmental forum to have a place to discuss the relevant issues with the local residents. Every year, a lecture is given by a guest: “Message from the forest” by Mr. Clive W. Nicole in 2006, “Change Japan from Mount Fuji” by alpinist Mr. Ken Noguchi in 2007, and “Marine environmental change captured through a finder” by an underwater photographer Mr. Ikuo Nakamura in 2008. This event is sponsored by Fuchu City, and we have around 500 people attending every year. We also introduce some of the measures taken among Toshiba Solutions Group for environmental preservation.

Kendo guidance for promoting healthy youth development
Tokio Ito(Toshiba Security Guard Corporation)

For 30 years since 1979, Tokio Ito has been teaching twice a week at a boy's Kendo club in Oita City. Today he is a chief of the club. Besides Kendo, he teaches social manners and the importance of social service activities to his students. One example is their monthly clean-up initiatives. In 2000, he received a president award from the Oita Kendo Association.

Toys for Tots
Toshiba America Consumer Products, L.L.C.

Employees purchased holiday gifts for local children from financially struggling families. Members of the Activities Committee took those gifts to the Center for Family Resources wearing Santa hats and reindeer ears to hand them out to the children. Children enjoyed their gifts and spent a memorable day.

Our contribution to a better City

TEmployees provided community services to create cleaner neighborhood. Ten employees volunteered at an elementary school where damage of the facilities were intese. The company donated necessary materials to resotre the damged areas. Employees also volunteered in the rehabilitation of the public park. They cleaned and painted the park for 3 days.

Europe

Christmas presents for children in need
Employees of Toshiba Electronics Europe GmbH

With the cooperation of local child care organization, our employees organized an initiative of giving Christmas presents to underprivileged children and impaired children. Children each wrote a "Christmas wish letter" and those letters were put on the Christmas tree in our lobby. 100 employees participated and picked up those letters and purchased the desired gifts for them.

Christmas event for mentally challenged children
Toshiba Embedded Software (India) Pvt. Ltd.

We supported a Christmas event organized by The Chrysalis Performance Arts Centre for the Challenged reaching out to 25,000 Special children all over India. We have extended the support towards this initiative held in Bangalore with voluntary support from all employees to help coordinate and operate the “Christmas gift program 2008.

Coral Restoration Project
Toshiba Consumer Products (Thailand) Co., Ltd.

To make better environment for Thailand, 432 employees and their families participated in the Coral Restoration Project held at Under Sea Park in Kham Island. The project lasted for four days.
A financial contribution of 35,000 bahts was also made to support the project.
