Collection drive- We collect used books, CDs and DVDs, spoiled postcards, stamps, used prepaid cards, and other such items and donate them to a number of NPOs and NGOs. In the six months since beginning the collection drive, we have collected roughly 300 grams' worth of items.

Fundraiser for donation to social welfare facilities
We hold a fundraiser twice a year and donate a total of some 300,000 yen to three social welfare facilities in Nomi city.
Kaga Toshiba Festival-Interaction with the local community
Our 2010 festival enjoyed the highest turnout ever with some 4,500 visitors. Our employees staffed various booths, staged a stand-up comedy show and character show, and provided various other forms of entertainment to deepen interaction with local residents.
Work experience program for junior high school students- We invited students to our plant to learn about the semiconductor manufacturing process and experience a mock product measuring process.
Participation in the Ishikawa forest development program
Since 1998, we have been supporting a forest development program sponsored by the Ishikawa Forest Development Promotion Association, and many of our employees also take part in the program's activities every year.
Participation in Tatsunokuchi Festival (2010)- A group of 36 employees participated in a local festival and performed the traditional Jonkara dance as Team Kaga Toshiba. Their perfectly synchronized moves added a dash of excitement to the festival.
Blood drives- We have been making blood donations twice a year since our company commenced operations.
Beautification campaign- We organize an environmental beautification campaign around our plant at least once a year. In 2008, 200 employees and their families volunteered their precious time during the early morning hours on a weekend. In 2009, a total of 253 employees participated in a litter clean-up for beautification of the dry riverbed area of Tedori River and areas around our plant. In 2010, a total of 225 employees participated.
Basketball lessons for children (2010)- Members of the Toshiba Brave Thunders basketball team taught basketball skills to 300 elementary, junior high and high school students in Nomi City, to stimulate children's interest and ambitions in basketball.

Invitation of children from children's homes to the Naniwa Yodogawa Fireworks Display
We invite a group of 80 elementary school children to high school students from five children's homes to watch the Naniwa Yodogawa Fireworks Display in August from our conference room, which provides a perfect, unobstructed view of the show. We pick up the sounds of the fireworks using a microphone and pipe it into the conference room using amplifiers to create the sensation of actually being outdoors under the fireworks. We offered the use of our conference room for the fifth time in 2010.
Blood drives
Support for a sea fishing event for people with disabilities (2008)- A group of our employees donated 14 headlights (worth 40,000 yen) to the “Let's Go Sea Fishing” workshop that promotes leisure activities among people with disabilities.

Promotion of science and technology education in Kawamata town
Since 2006, we have been contributing to the annual Kawamata Children's Science Workshop hosted by Kawamata town by sending our young engineers to teach groups of 30 to 50 local elementary school students about the mechanism of electric generation and provide hands-on experience in creating a motor for a Toshiba product. We have also offered internships to local junior high and high school students since 2001, to provide experience in performing processing and assembly tasks in our Production Department over a period of five days.
Cooperation with the Children's Science Workshop, “The Secrets of Motors”
As an annual undertaking since 2006, young engineers from our company assist in the Kawamata Children's Science Museum event hosted by Kawamata Town, by teaching local elementary school children about the fundamental principles of generating electricity and providing hands-on experience in assembling a motor for a Toshiba product.
Active learning program for students of Kawamata Junior High School
We provide an active learning program to local junior high school students so they can learn about the importance of working and obtain some ideas for deciding their future career by gaining a glimpse of an actual workplace. We particularly teach the students never to forget the significance of working and the feeling of gratitude to their parents.
Internship (work experience) for high school students
We invite first-year high school students at Kawamata High School to intern at our plant for a week. The students acquire hands-on experience in performing processing and assembly tasks in our Production Department that they cannot learn at school.
In 2010, we invited a group of 42 students enrolled in the mechanical course at Fukushima Technical High School to learn about manufacturing principles and processes at our plant.

At an executive convention of the Kawamata Branch of Fukushima Firefighters Association, our in-house fire brigade was commended for responding to a house fire that broke out in front of the entrance of our Hattanda Plant and making initial efforts to put out the fire, as practiced in daily training.

Support for community outreach activities
For more than 10 years now, we have been implementing activities for the benefit of local adults and children with disabilities, in concert with the Toshiba labor union. We invite them to annual rice cake making fairs and tangerine-picking events, and also provide assisted swimming lessons every two weeks.
We donated the prize money we received from the Social Contribution Award to the Hiyoko Club and Angel Club, two local workshops for parents of children with intellectual disabilities in the Tsurumi district.
Public use of our gymnasium and field- We offer Tsurumi residents the use of our gymnasium as a venue for volleyball tournaments and the Toshiba field as a venue for holding gateball games.
Plant tours for schools awarded the highest prize in the Energy Education Award sponsored by Denki Shimbun (2010)
We invited students from two schools awarded the highest prize in the Energy Education Award sponsored by the Japan Electric Association (Denki Shimbun)-Kagoshima Prefectural Kajiki Technical High School and Sapporo Municipal Mikaho Elementary School-to tour our plant, Isogo Engineering Center and Toshiba Science Museum and learn about our initiatives in the electric power business.
Plant tours- We invite high school students, college students, and students from abroad to tour our plant. In fiscal 2010, we received over 600 students.
Tree-planting experience program in the “Toshiba Forest” in Isehara- About 80 employees participated in the program.
Participation in the Setsubun bean-scattering event
Clean-up along streets around the plant- We clean the roads from the nearest station to our plant and parks in the neighborhood with the participation of roughly 400 employees from our company and other Toshiba Group companies.
Blood drives- We held a five-day blood drive during the summer, when blood supplies tend to be low, with the cooperation of approximately 200 employees.

Participation and co-sponsorship of the Wasshoi Hyakuman Summer Festival
We co-sponsored the Wasshoi Hyakuman Summer Festival, a major event that draws some 1.5 million visitors every year. As many as 150 employees from Toshiba Group companies took part in the finale Hyakuman dance and added to the excitement of the festival.
Toshiba Festival-Interaction with the local community
The Toshiba Festival has become a well-loved regular event in our community. It offers an LED workshop for elementary school students, displays Toshiba products for sale and shows a video of Toshiba's history, among other attractions, so visitors can enjoy the festival while deepening their understanding of Toshiba.
Collection drives for empty aluminum cans, pull-tabs and plastic bottle caps
We contribute to aluminum can and pull-tab collection drives promoted by the Liaison Council for Environmental Pollution Prevention. We have collected 88.5 kilograms' worth of these items so far, and are making steady progress toward collecting 800 kg, which buys one wheelchair.
We also support a local company's campaign to collect plastic bottle caps to deliver vaccines to children in need around the world by organizing eco-cap drives.
Installation of light decorations
During the Christmas season, we decorate the front gate of our plant with lights to brighten the streets and promote safety and crime prevention in the community.
Participation in traffic safety events
We participate in the Autumn Traffic Safety Festa in Kitakyushu by setting up a Toshiba booth and displaying LEDs that are used in traffic lights and that are the main product we manufacture. We also participate in the Mochi Making Festival and Parade for Traffic Safety, with 20 to 40 employees volunteering their time to hand out mochi cakes to passersby and calling on their cooperation to promote traffic safety and crime prevention.
Work experience program for junior high school students- We invite students from local junior high schools to our plant to learn about our plant and the products we make, tour the clean room, and try their hand at burning wafers. As their impression of the tour, some students said they felt that the work we do is rewarding work that involves top-level technologies.

We co-sponsored the Kitakyushu Eco-life Stage event hosted by the Kitakyushu Environment Bureau. We displayed our LED lamps at a concurrent environmental event and demonstrated their energy-saving effect.

Kitashiba Electric Co., Ltd.

Community Firefighting
Having served the community for 21 years as of 2006, a special group of 24 employee firefighters at Kitashiba cooperate with and train alongside local firefighters (in addition to their own, regular monthly training). Four or five times each year, the squad must usually rush out in the company's fire engine to fight local fires. Arriving first to a nearby fire on the evening of June 16, 2006, the squad helped rescue seniors and control traffic. Thanks to their vigilance, injuries were averted and the fire was contained.
In 2007, our fire brigade took part in a water-discharge exercise and training in fighting chemical fires jointly with the Southern Fukushima Fire Department. It also arranged for the use of the sole earthquake simulation vehicle in Fukushima prefecture to provide a realistic experience of a strong earthquake, and promoted disaster preparedness and awareness among local residents and employees.
In 2008, the brigade was presented with a letter of appreciation from the local fire department for its cooperation in helping fight fires in the community.
In 2010, the brigade joined hands with a local fire company to hold a water-discharge exercise and disaster prevention fair, in which local residents were invited to experience a strong earthquake in an earthquake simulation vehicle and an evacuation drill in a “smoke house.”
Clean-up
We have been organizing cleanup activities once or twice a year in areas mainly on streets around our plant and areas within a radius of 2 to 3 km, which includes the local JR Matsukawa Station. From the president and labor union president to regular employees, a group of close to 100 members picks up litter and wipes windows at the station. Some employees also bring their children to participate.
Tennis coaching for children (2008)- To promote exchanges with local residents, we invited neighborhood children to our annual Kitashiba Sports Festival and provided tennis coaching and instruction.
Provision of our premises and facilities to local festivals (2008)- We provided the use of the open areas around our plant, a four-ton truck, audio equipment and other facilities to the annual autumn festival held in Matsukawa town, Fukushima city.
Cooperation with a science museum for children (2007)- We participated in an event to commemorate Fukushima city's 100th anniversary and offered hands-on experience in using electricity to melt metal. The children who took part in the experiment were both startled and intrigued by the power of electricity.

Factory-wide CSR activities on occasion of Komukai Operations' 70th anniversary
Each section in our plant voluntarily selected themes related to Toshiba's Five Pillars of CSR, and all employees engaged in one or more activities. Of the 134 groups that applied, 71 engaged in social contribution activities, including litter cleanups along Tamagawa River and around the plant; collection of used books, Bell Marks and plastic bottle caps; cooperation in setting up a booth for a disabled group at a local festival; interaction with local residents through environmental lessons and other such events; and promotion of traffic manners.
Community contribution through basketball coaching
The Toshiba basketball club provides basketball lessons at elementary and junior high schools in Kawasaki city and Yokosuka city, to communicate to children the fun and excitement of playing sports.
Public use of our facilities- We offer public use our gym facilities as part of our initiatives to contribute to the local community. The facilities are used by approximately 3,800 people annually as a venue for holding workshops sponsored by the local fire department, rehabilitation classes for people with disabilities, a healthy diet course offered by the local healthcare center, and baseball lessons provided by the local community association.
Clean-up (2007-)- On the occasion of our plant's 70th anniversary, we launched monthly clean-up activities around our plant. This year, 1,094 employees from our plant and other Toshiba Group companies located within the complex participated in the activities.

PET bottle cap collection drive in collaboration with the local community (2008)- On the occasion of our plant's 70th anniversary, we joined hands with local residents and engaged in a campaign to collect plastic bottle caps and use the proceeds to benefit children around the world in need of vaccination.

Organization of local festivals-Interaction with the local community
Tamagawa Clean Campaign- Since the launch of the campaign in 2004, an estimated 700 employees from Toshiba Group companies in Kawasaki city have participated in cleaning the 2-km stretch of dry riverbed of the Tamagawa River.
Blood drives- We host a blood drive in August and February every year with the cooperation of approximately 300 employees on each occasion.

Clean-up around the offices- Twice a year, we organize a campaign to clean areas around our Matsuyama, Imabari, Uwajima, and Niihama offices.

Organization of annual bazaars
We hold a bazaar every year in cooperation with other Toshiba Group companies in our building. Most recently, we collected items from some 1,000 employees and sold them in a two-day bazaar held within the building. The proceeds totaling 46,100 yen were donated to the Nishinippon Shimbun Public Welfare Service Organization. We also donated LCD TVs to welfare facilities with the prize money we received in the Fifth Toshiba Social Contribution Award.
PET bottle cap collection drive
We collected plastic bottle caps and donated them to the Japan Committee of the non-profit Vaccines for the World's Children. In 2010, we held six collection drives and collected 173,250 caps worth 84 doses of vaccine.

Clean-up
We are part of a group of six Toshiba Group companies that engage in a monthly after-work litter cleanup campaign in Hamanomachi Park in the neighborhood and around our company with the participation of close to 100 employees.

Fundraising for the Haiti Earthquake- We organized a fundraiser to aid victims of the Haiti Earthquake that occurred in January 2010, and donated an amount of 11,075 yen collected from our employees to the Oita Chapter of the Japanese Red Cross Society.
Provision of lecturers to the Council for Adult Relearning- We sent three employees to act as lecturers and members of a council hosted by Oita National College of Technology called Council for Adult Relearning, and provided PC lessons to young people who are not in education, employment or training (commonly called NEETs) and reclusive young people.
Traffic safety campaign- During the spring and autumn nationwide traffic safety weeks, our employees stand at the intersection in front of our plant and call people's attention to promoting traffic safety.
Year-end charity donation- In addition to donating corporate funds, we have been organizing a fund drive since 2007 with the objective of strengthening CSR awareness among our employees, and have donated 7,394 yen to the Oita Godo Shimbunsha Welfare Organization.
Fundraising for providing scholarships to orphans from traffic accidents- We organize fundraising activities and cooperate with the Toshiba Oita My Car Club.

Provision of internships- In 2006, we offered internships to students from national, public and private universities and vocational schools in Oita, and provided individual guidance and hands-on experience in preparing an actual product specification sheet, creating a program, and other such tasks. We also provided an overview of our business, and had the interns give a presentation using a presentation tool.

Sponsorship and participation in a public table tennis tournament (2009)- We participated in the Joso Public Table Tennis Tournament as an extension of our sports club activities, and also contributed 120 bottles of drinking water, including Toshiba's original brand of “Pink Ribbon mineral water,” to the event.
Support for a children's mikoshi festival in Hanyu
We offered the use of the cafeteria in our plant as a sitting area during the annual mikoshi festival held by the local children's club, and also contributed a money gift and beverages.
Organization of the Ibaraki Plant Summer Festival to promote interaction with the local community
We held a summer festival to promote exchanges with local residents and families of employees, and donated 30,300 yen in proceeds from a bazaar of items collected from our employees to the Joso Culture and Sports Promotion Fund.
Plant visit by students from Tsukuba University of Technology (2008)- In response to a request from Tsukuba University of Technology, we invited hearing-impaired students from the university to tour our lighting equipment manufacturing plant.

Environmental education concerning lighting
In response to a request from the Japan Electric Lamp Manufacturers Association, we have held an LED Handicraft Workshop for children on October 21, the “Day of Light,” since 2006. This year, 28 fifth-grade students and 29 sixth-grade students from Kanuma Municipal Kami-ishikawa Elementary School, Tochigi Prefecture, participated in the workshop, receiving instruction in skills including the creation of street dioramas using LED lights, enabling them to learn about the mechanism of LED lights and to experience the joy of illumination.
Flea market to raise funds for Shimotsuke Scholarship Foundation for Traffic Accident Orphans Fund (2005)
Since 2005, we have held an annual flea market within the grounds of the Kanuma Operations facility to raise funds for donation to the Shimotsuke Scholarship Foundation for Traffic Accident Orphans Fund managed by the Shimotsuke Shimbun newspaper. Each employee and partner company is asked to donate one item and to buy one item. 2007 was the most successful year so far for the initiative, with 85,500 yen donated to the fund.
In 2008, the market raised approximately 60,000 yen.
We also donated the prize money received as part of the Ashita Award in 2005 to the Scholarship Fund in January 2006.
Guided tours for elementary through high school students
Kanuma Operations holds nine plant tours every year, introducing local children to production sites and explaining the history of light bulbs.
Opening of plant facilities to the public- We offer the use of the baseball fields, tennis courts, and other facilities at its Kanuma Operations and Yokosuka premises for community sporting activities.
Holding of class on lighting for junior high school students (2010)
In response to a request from Chiba Junior High School for a company visit as part of the school's field trip program, we held a class on LED lighting in the Yokosuka Head Office.
LED seminar for local residents (2010)- We held a seminar on LED lighting in response to a request from the residents' association of a neighboring housing complex.
Lecture on lighting for technical college students (2008)- At the request of Chuo College of Technology, we offered a lecture on the mechanism by which light is generated and the history of Toshiba light bulbs to students of the college's Construction Facility Design course. The lecturer lit up filament, fluorescent, and LED bulbs, offering accessible explanations of the differences between them. Able to actually touch the bulbs, the participating students found the lecture fascinating.
Environmental lecture at Nippon Institute of Technology (2009)- The manager of the company's Environmental Promotion Department offered a lecture to university and high school students on the theme “Changing lighting for a brighter future: Advances in LED illumination that will help the environment.” The lecture was followed by a panel discussion.
Participation in the Monozukuri (manufacturing) Exhibition (2008)- We participated in the Monozukuri Exhibition organized by the Morioka Children's Museum of Science, exhibiting a display that compared filament bulbs and fluorescent lights, and panels that offered an easy-to-understand explanation of the energy-saving ability of fluorescent lights.

Donation of used stamps- We collect used stamps, prepaid cards and meter stamps that are no longer needed in the office.
PET bottle cap collection drive- We have commenced collecting PET bottle caps and donating the proceeds from their sale for the purchase of vaccines for children around the world. Since the program was commenced in November 2007, 47.1 kg of caps have been collected, which is enough to supply vaccines for 47 children.

Pull-top collection drive- Employees collected 200 g of pull-tops for recycling, using the proceeds from their sale to contribute a wheelchair to a local facility.

Clean-up for beautification of Shibatani and Nanko-Minami areas- All employees of the Osaka Transport Center who are able to participate conduct clean-ups every Wednesday morning.
