PET bottle cap collection drive- We collect plastic bottle caps to raise and contribute funds to the initiative advocated by Yokohama city to improve the global environment and deliver vaccines to children in need around the world.
Collection of used cards- We collect used prepaid cards, admission tickets, and other such tickets and donate them to the Kawasaki Community Support Center.
Clean-up along streets around Toshiba Yokohama Complex (2005-)- In cooperation with cleanup activities organized by the employees of Toshiba Yokohama Complex, we engage in a litter cleanup on two weekends a month, and keep a watchful eye out for illegal dumping of rubbish during daily patrols around the perimeter of our facilities.
Clean-up along streets around Toshiba Fuchu Complex- We support the cleanup activities implemented by Toshiba Group employees at Toshiba Fuchu Complex by supplying cleaning tools and retrieving and weighing the rubbish that is collected. We also patrol the perimeter of our facilities twice a day with a watchful eye for illegal dumping of rubbish.

Campaign against cigarette littering and smoking on the street (2008-)
Our employees cooperated in a campaign against cigarette littering and smoking on the street hosted by Atsugi city and called on passersby for their cooperation in promoting greater awareness of beautification.
Volunteer activities during Environment Month- As one of our local contribution activities, we organize a litter clean-up once a year and pick up cigarette butts, plastic bottles and other such rubbish littering areas around nearby bus stops.

We participated in a campaign to collect rubbish illegally dumped in the dry riverbed of Sagami River.

Computer classes for the intellectually disabled (2010)
We provided six instructors from among our employees to teach computer classes for people with intellectual disabilities. Four classes were held in our first year of participation.
Shikoku Ladybug Marathon (2010)
In support of people with disabilities entered in the Shikoku Ladybug Marathon held in Takamatsu City, a group of 12 employees volunteered their help in regulating traffic along the course and in guiding and cheering on the runners.
Yashima Clean Campaign (2009-)
A group of 32 Toshiba Group employees and their families joined some 1,700 other local residents in collecting illegally dumped rubbish near the “Nagasaki no Hana (nose of Nagasaki)” area on Yashima Plateau in Setonaikai National Park.
Main street clean-up campaign in Takamatsu city (2008-)- We participate in a litter clean-up along the symbolic main street of Takamatsu city in the spirit of “beautifying our own city by ourselves.”

A group of 40 Toshiba Group employees and their families joined 2,000 other local residents and helped collect illegally dumped rubbish along roads near Takamatsu Airport.

Provision of plastic rubbish bags and participation in the Kawaguchi Cleanup Campaign- We provided 10,000 environmentally friendly plastic bags made of rice to the annual clean-up event held in the local community to reduce the generation of dioxins when burnt, and also participated in the clean-up.

Participation in Niigata Festival
We participate in the annual Niigata Festival, an event that highlights the summer season in Niigata.
Blood drives- Employees from our branch offices make an active effort to visit nearby blood drive rooms to give blood. As many as 60 employees cooperate on each occasion.
Nagano Toshiba Group clean-up activities (2006-)- Twice a year, in May and October, employees of Toshiba Group companies in Nagano participate in a litter clean-up around Zenkoji Temple.
Autumn clean-up campaign in Toyanogata Lagoon (2007-)
To protect the natural environment and the waterfowl habitat in Toyanogata Lagoon, 64 employees of Toshiba Group companies in Niigata, wearing matching jackets sporting the Toshiba logo, took part in a clean-up campaign along with residents and companies from the local community.

Student plant tours- We have given plant tours to approximately 100 local junior high and high school students since 1994.
Collection drives- We collected 130 unused calendars in addition to used stamps and prepaid cards, and donated them to volunteer organizations. We also collected 40,840 plastic bottle caps (102.1 kg) and donated them to volunteer organizations dedicated to providing vaccines to children in developing countries.
Blood drives- Since its establishment, our Akita Office has been inviting a mobile blood drive unit to its office twice yearly. Approximately 30 employees give blood every year.
Clean-up activities- Our employees actively participate in a twice-annual campaign to clean areas around our facilities and remove weeds from along Ajisai (hydrangea) Road.

Academic support- We have provided training facilities, materials and equipment in support of practical civil works and survey training in universities. In fiscal 2010, we contributed to training about 130 students in three universities.

Community Environmental Forum
Discussing local environmental issues with the community has been the goal of a forum series hosted by this Group companies including Toshiba Solutions. Lectures to date have included "Message from the Forest," by naturalist C.W. Nicol (2006); "Changing Japan, Starting with Mount Fuji," by alpinist Ken Noguchi (2007); "Marine Environmental Change through the Viewfinder," by underwater photographer Ikuo Nakamura (2008); “Message from the Nature-Learning from the Wildlife” by animal photographer Manabu Miyazaki; and “Consider about Global Environment Issues trough the Weather Surrounding Us” by weatherperson Tadayuki Iwatani (2010). Some 500 people attend the city-sponsored event each year, which also provides an opportunity to introduce environmental measures taken by the Toshiba Solutions Group.
Co-sponsorship of a programming contest for nationwide technical colleges- We co-sponsor a programming contest to foster the next generation of leaders in the IT industry. In the most recent contest, we invited the participation of Chinese students to promote internationalization of the event, and also provided a tour of Toshiba Headquarters and the Toshiba Science Museum after the contest.
Contribution of charity goods to children in Africa
To aid the 59 villages in Sub-Saharan Africa and the Democratic Republic of Congo that are designated the poorest regions in the world by the United Nations and the World Bank, we called on our employees to contribute clothes, bags, rice and other such charity goods and donated them to people in those regions through Motherland Academy International, using shipping costs also collected from our employees. Additionally, our Kansai Branch Office sent a box of soap and stuffed animals to the Republic of Mali, using funds raised by its employees.
Participation in Fuchu Environment Festa
We participated in the event by giving environmental quizzes to children and otherwise creating an opportunity for visitors to think about environmental initiatives they can incorporate into their daily lives.

Collection drives for used stamps and unsent postcards- We collect used stamps and unsent postcards and donate them to social welfare organizations in our community.
Sending New Year greeting cards to elderly citizens who live alone (2008-)- Under the initiative of the Minato Volunteer Center, we send handwritten New Year greeting cards to elderly citizens who live alone, in hopes of using love and happiness to dispel any loneliness they may feel in the New Year.
Donating crayons to children in Afghanistan- We saved up the points we earned from purchasing printer toners and exchanged them for crayons, which we then donated to JOICFP (Japanese Organization for International Cooperation in Family Planning), an organization that promotes the “Crayons to Afghanistan” project.
Promotion of the use of personal chopsticks and collection of used disposable chopsticks- As part of our initiatives to help conserve the environment, we encourage our employees to use personal chopsticks for lunch, as well as collect used disposable chopsticks for reuse in recycled paper.
Co-sponsorship and participation in the Furusato (hometown) Clean-up Campaign (2008-)- We co-sponsor a nationwide clean-up event promoted by Mainichi Shimbun and the NPO Fujisan Club. In 2009, we became a member of the planning committee, and in fiscal 2010, a total of 360 employees from Toshiba Group companies took part in cleaning the Arakawa Nakadote riverbank and areas around our plant.

Social initiative fund with employee installment contributions
The “Toshiba TEC Social Contributions Fund” uses installment contributions employees make from their pay. The company matches these contributions and donates the total.
In 2007, a total of 1 million yen was given to social welfare facilities in 10 prefectures and another 1 million yen to the “International Skills Festival for All, Japan 2007.” In 2009, we gave 500,000 yen each to social welfare facilities in Ohito, Mishima and Osaki (places where Toshiba TEC has offices), 1 million yen to the Central Community Chest of Japan, 1.5 million yen to the Saitama Red Cross Blood Center, 500,000 yen to Save the Children Japan to celebrate its 60th anniversary, and 500,000 yen to the Keidanren Nature Conservation Fund.
Promotion of Pink Ribbon Campaign- We have participated in the Pink Ribbon Campaign since 2009 along with the rest of the Toshiba Group. Twenty-three employees and family members at a walk during Pink Ribbon Month reminded people along the route about the need for breast cancer exams. Pink Ribbon paper cups, the purchase of which includes a donation, are used to serve beverages to visitors and have resulted in 20,400 yen in donations to the Japan Cancer Society.
Science show visits
We visited elementary schools in Tokyo to provide environmental education classes in collaboration with Toshiba Science Museum and Toshiba TEC Solution Service. The experience-oriented classes by the GEMS Program helped children to learn by thinking for themselves and to have a better understanding of environmental issues.
Plant tours
We have given plant tours to 340 local elementary school, junior and senior high school students on school trips, and government officials. The tours were requested by groups wishing to know more about the people and production processes at our local plant.
Installation of “Heartful Vending Machines”
Vending machines that collect donations were installed, and the 241,052 yen collected was put to use in social welfare initiatives through a Tokyo community chest fund.

These summer festivals are held in each area as a way to interact with local communities. Each year these are big events with plenty of programs for families to enjoy together.

Donation of uniforms (2010)- We donated the uniforms of 1,200 female employees to the non-profit Japan Relief Clothing Center and Wakachiai Project, an NGO for international cooperation. These were put to use for refugees and disaster victims around the world.
Hands-on exhibit of self-checkout system (2010)
We exhibited a self-checkout system in a summer vacation event at Sainokuni Kurashi Plaza in Saitama Prefecture. Many children and families got to experience shopping with such systems.
Donation of digital multi-function printers to international aid agency (2008)
Clean-up- An internal volunteer group began activities in 1992. It conducts clean-up of roads around business centers, nearby rivers, around facilities for persons with mental and physical disabilities, etc.
Blood drives- Blood drives are held once a year at main office and Ohito and Mishima Operations. Received award in 2004 from Health, Labour and Welfare Minister for more than 20 years of activities.
Participation in Agenda Day 2008- At request of Kanagawa Prefecture, exhibited at Agenda Day in Yokohama. Our exhibition consisted of panels on “E-blue: reduce paper waste by using erasable ink” and “Environment-conscious shopping (food mileage, consumption of local products, and not using plastic shopping bags).”
“Little Dam in the Forest” project (2007-2009)
Endorsing Mishima City's plan for clean water and forests, we cooperated with their project to build a dam in the forests of the Hakone Mountains.

Courses at special-needs school
In order to provide an opportunity of learning to mentally handicapped children, our employees voluntarily teach at local special-needs schools. This project has become so popular since it started in 2009 that school teachers are now working aggressively on hands-on type learning, e.g., they hold a study class by developing what we taught to children, and they attend the instructor training seminar sponsored by Toshiba.
Voluntary instructor at “Open College Tokyo” (2010)
We dispatched voluntary instructors to an open college managed in the collaboration of universities, special needs schools, developmental disorder support centers, etc. and implemented such programs as "scientific crime detection" to provide an opportunity to experience and learn about science. Our activity was highly evaluated and received the “Judge's Special Award” of the First Career Education Award (Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry).
Support for implementing Kids' ISO environmental education program beyond company, and conducting it internally- Since 2004, a total of 147 children of employees have undertaken to save energy at home, with eight earning an International Certificate for their projects. Additionally, five employees who are certified instructors have evaluated and given advice to 888 elementary school students and the company is providing funding for workbooks at their schools. We have also begun bringing courses to elementary schools where Kids' ISO has been implemented.
In 2008 we even sent a specialized instructor to Kuwait. In fiscal 2009, two children of employees earned the International Certificate as well as the company President's commendation for their outstanding environmental management skills. Additionally, employees have served as instructors to support the “Kids' ISO for School” program, which two local elementary schools are running to improve the environment in the school and its entire region.
Courses to go
We support a Saitama City project to strengthen math and science education. Employees and retirees living in the city act as volunteer teachers giving courses at two city elementary schools.
Video meeting between elementary schools (2009)- Two elementary schools, one in Aomori and one in Tokyo, were connected through the Internet using Toshiba infrastructure. The students had a 90-minute video meeting and enjoyed interacting with their counterparts in a remote city.
Cooperation with environmental event- We donated giveaway items for environmental events held in Tokyo and the cities of Yokohama, Chiba, Utsunomiya and Kitakyushu. The flower pots and work gloves we donated were made from recycled uniforms. We also hosted booths and provided operational support for these events.

This program helps children take the lead in reducing energy use at home. Employees with an instructor's license help students at elementary schools by evaluating and giving advice on their energy-saving plans. The company also provides funds for workbooks at school.

Providing work for vocational aid center
Since 1999, the Mie Business Center has contracted work out to three vocational aid centers for people with physical or mental disabilities. Jobs include removing paper from coiled copper wire and aluminum rolls. Additionally, once a week we host visitors from these facilities to give them factory training, during which all 22 employees from plant manager on down help teach individuals how to do jobs like taking apart PCs. In 2005 we earned a special commendation from the mayor of Yokkaichi City.
In 2008 we held an event in which we all enjoyed New Year's foods together.
We hosted similar events at four vocational aid centers in 2009, with 60 employees participating and having interacting with persons with disabilities.
Tour of recycling facilities
Each year we host about 6,000 visitors, from elementary school students to adults and including some non-Japanese persons. We show our home appliance recycling facilities and endeavor continuously to raise interest in global environmental problems.

Support for Special Olympics (loan of optometry equipment)- Since 2004, we have supported “Opening Eyes,” a program that provides eye exams for mentally challenged athletes taking part in Special Olympics. We have loaned out optometry and eyeglass processing equipment free of charge.
Offering field for local neighborhood council- We give the local neighborhood council access to our field for evacuation drills, AED demonstrations and local festivals.

We have provided hands-on workplace learning, internships and plant tours for students from elementary school to university level. Hands-on workplace learning includes doing assembly and boxing up goods, jobs that help students better understand work and society.

We have held events for local residents to enjoy a decorative lighting display powered by green energy on the premises. Children enjoy the Christmas night by taking pictures and playing a quiz with an employee dressed up as Santa Claus.
