Several group policies are in place to help employees who wish to volunteer.
Time Off for Volunteering
Employees can ordinarily defer annual paid leave until the next fiscal year, but Toshiba employees can defer four days of paid leave even after that year. Up to 20 days of paid leave can be accumulated and used for volunteering, self-improvement, or other purposes.
Volunteer Support Program
Toshiba employees in Japan who have volunteered at nonprofits or similar organizations for some time can take advantage of a special program. Up to ¥100,000 can be donated to support the organization's activities, or the nonprofits can receive a donation of used computers.
In FY2012, 10 organizations received ¥1,000,000 combined, and 11 organizations received 20 previously owned computers. Qualifying nonprofits are selected based on Toshiba employees' contributions to the organizations, the social contributions of the organizations, and other factors.
Toshiba also partially bears the expense of tuition for employees who pursue nature guide certification.
