Social Contributions Activities Overseas[Asia/Oceania(A-G)]
Goods and cash contributions collected from employees were donated to Simei Care Center. Our regular support of the center includes donations made before Chinese New Year and Christmas, as well as the hosting of a cinema day for patients of the center.
We collected contributions from employees and hosted this event, inviting members of the Society for the Physically Disabled.
Films were screened for physically handicapped children from low-income families, with employees contributing 3 dollars per child. Some 53 children came to the company to enjoy four popular movies.
Thirty-two physically handicapped children and their parents were invited to a movie theater by employees. Social workers handed out tickets and popcorn provided by employees. Advised employees on how to get involved in volunteer work through a seminar. Internal donations drive was carried out before the visit. Medicated oil, powder and other items were purchased with the donation and put into gift bags. Employees made a visit to the nursing home and presented the gift to the residents. Visited a local nursing home to hand out "ang pow (Chinese traditional red packet)," which was funded by contributions collected from 130 employees, to celebrate the Chinese New Year. These packets, with the names of contributors and New Year's messages on them, encouraged the elderly people. Employees participated in an educational camp for children that was hosted by a local welfare facility as volunteer workers. Children learned leadership and teamwork skills in this camp.
Sponsored an environmental event, Clean & Green Week 2004, in which local schools participated. Employees helped out during the exhibition. ![]() Sponsored the purchase of an ECOPOT for the school. Compost made by the ECOPOT is used as fertilizer for the school gardens. ![]()
1,000 trees were planted by Group companies based in Vietnam to commemorate 35th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Vietnam and Japan and to improve environment around the Nam Son Landfill area.(Supporting companies: Toshiba Asia Pacific Pte., Ltd., Toshiba Vietnam Consumer Products Co., Ltd., Toshiba Vietnam Home Appliances Co., Ltd., Toshiba Software Development (Vietnam) Co., Ltd.) A campaign was promoted to collect paper waste in the office. The proceeds made by selling off to a recycling company were donated to the Singapore Environment Council to buy two compost makers for trees at schools and parks. Offered full cooperation for World Cup public viewing events held by the Japanese Association, Singapore, from planning to implementation. The employees cheered for the Japanese National Team together with 600 supporters who gathered in the venue.
Every year, we donate 150,000 Australian dollars to Landcare Australia, an organization that promotes environmental preservation, to help fund their projects within the country.
School children were invited on a factory tour, and given explanations about the power generation and power transmission systems, the roles of transformers, and the importance of saving power. We invited the families of our employees to our plant, to show them around the environmental facilities within the premises and to explain the measures taken in order to reduce harmful chemical emissions.
We invited a group of students from Kinki University of Japan to our plant. They learned about the differences between corporate culture in China and Japan. Scholarships are provided to college students. Furthermore, the company supports schools' training program through providing internships and lectures. On the World Blood Donor Day, a total of 144 employees, which is twice as many as last year, cooperated with the campaign. Changzhou City Blood Center gave us words of appreciation for our support to them five years in a row.

“Toshiba Scholarships” were given to 25 Zhejiang University students (4,000 yuan each) and 20 graduate school students (5,000 yuan each).
“Toshiba Scholarship” were given to 25 Qinghua University students (4,000 yuan each) and 20 graduate school students (5,000 yuan each). Supports a program run by the Guangming Newspaper to help the community by donating 30,000 yuan, as well as a yearly subscription to the Guangming Newspaper.
Initiated in 2000 to stimulate cultural awareness in the Beijing area, from 2007 classes from the Middle School in Beijing were invited to the event, raising attendance from 120 to 200.
On May 22 -the company's annual CSR day - 78 employees and family members went to Fangshang area of Beijing to plant 180 pine trees in 2007. 26,310 yuan worth of linen, sports gear, etc. were donated to 300 students in a middle school in Beijing. ![]() Organized by the China Youth Development Fund, these awards seek to spur on development in education by recognizing outstanding teachers in rural and mountainous areas for their long-term dedication to education. This year 100 teachers were nominated for the awards, which were given to 10.
TCH R&D center employees and their families helped clean-up the zoo, made donation of 8,000 yuan and became “foster parents” to a baby monkey. ![]() To make better environment for Thailand, 432 employees and their families participated in the Coral Restoration Project held at Under Sea Park in Kham Island. The project lasted for four days.
During the beauty contest, we called for contributions from employees. A total of 50,000 bahts was collected and used for many good causes, such as providing support for HIV patients, donating Toshiba products and scholarships to disadvantaged children, and assisting in the purchase/management of sports facilities at schools. ![]() We have collected used aluminum cans and donated them to the Prostheses Foundation of H.R.H. The Princess Mother for producing the components used in prostheses. Employees contributed their hourly pay to National Council for Child and Youth Development. A total of 10,000 yuan was donated to the Dalian China Charity Federation. Every year, we take part in the job fair hosted by Dalian City to recruit people with disabilities. Employees volunteered to plant 1,200 trees in Qingshi Street, Jinshi Beach. TDL and Dalian Toshiba Television Co.,Ltd., hosted a summer evening festival in coordination with the local community. Each of the two companies contributed 5,000 yuan to the Festival, and the employees performed in the "Hao Yun Lai" show. Donated a total of 8,500 yuan to earthquake victims in Guangxi Province in 2005.
Contributed to cultural exchange between Japan and China by co-sponsoring the contest held at the Dalian Jiaqi Japanese School. TDL and the goverment of Dalian City co-sponsered the "Toshiba Cup", the 6th Chinese Speech Contest for Foreign People. TDL also donated 80,000 yuan for this event. Together with Toshiba Dailian Co., Ltd. 5,000 yuan each was contributed for the community festival. Participated in an activity organized by an organization based in the Dalian Economic & Technology Development Zone to help schools and other bodies in isolated areas that are in financial difficulties, and donated TV sets to them. 107 employees and their families cleaned fallen leaves at the Yangjae Citizen's forest. Collected almost 470 sacks of fallen leaves.
In 2009, 34 employees entered the Hong Kong Marathon to raise money for charity. Aiming to improve the services that can be provided at the Yan Chai Hospital, employees bought the raffle tickets on offer.
Employees visited Shenzhen Children Welfare Center to deliver some care and made communication with the orphans and disabled children. 300,000 Hong Kong dollars is donated to the Community Chest to support 143 social welfare agencies that provide wide range of services to over one million needy people in Hong Kong. Donated computers and peripherals such as scanners and printers to the Caritas Computer Workshop and the Chamber of Hong Kong Computer Industry, which distribute computers and peripherals to schools in need and to welfare organizations. Invited 17 students of the Hong Kong University of Technology on a two-day study tour to Japan in 2006. Used toner cartridges are regularly donated to the Rehabilitation Center for the handicapped. New toner cartridges can be made by recycling used toner cartridges, and the proceeds are used to support the rehabilitation at the center. Employees visited senior citizens who lives alone to give donations and presents.
Toshiba Electronics Korea hundred of employee volunteers cleaned up a public park To support the restoration activity after the tanker collision accident in the area, towels and clothes collected from employees were sent to the Taian government.
TEM employees visited a local school to present lectures on the environment, make donations of office equipment and do clean-ups around the school.
Aiming to stop coastline denudation, employees at Toshiba group companies in Malaysia planted 150 trees in the area with the local residents. Supporting companies: Toshiba Sales & Services Sdn. Gift of food was purchased with the donation gathered from employees and was presented to the rehabilitation center together with two wheel chairs. In this program designed to support children in nursing homes, employees join with local community members to clean up neighborhoods. Five used computers, vans and entrance signs were also donated this year, along with 48pcs. of 20-pound bags of rice, which were donated every month from July 2006 to March 2007.
This program seeks to build trust and close the economic gap between aboriginals and other communities. Schoolchildren are given help to prepare them for exams, supplies are donated to schools, and an annual sports competition is held. Students and parents are also invited to the company to learn about employment opportunities and technology and to share their knowledge and experience. 1.Tree planting program in Shenzhen
A tree-planting event is held every year in March. This year, 10 seedlings of osmanthus trees were planted. Requested by the Environment Protection Department of YangXing District, a technology exchange event was held with those who are engaged in environment protection in local companies. 14 were provided a guided tour around the environmental control room and a brief explanation on the technologies used.
Donated 250,000 yuan through Shanghai Hope Construction Office, and Youth Development Funds of Anhui, constructed the Hope Elementary School in Feixi Prefecture in Anhui. The opening ceremony was held on August 24, 2005. The 20,000 yuan donated by employees was used to buy stationeries. On Consumer Rights Day, which is held in China on March 15, the company provided instruction on how to handle emergency situations in elevators. The company invited sutudents and the teachers from the Toshiba Elevator Hope Elementory school to visit the plant. The plant tour included introduction on the history of Toshiba and about the leading technologies. To raise the quality of education, six computers were donated to the school for use as instructional aids. Ten thousand yuan worth of basketball, soccer and other physical edcation equipment was also donated. 60 sets of adjustable school desks and chairs were donated to the Toshiba Hope Elementary School. The company provided support to this event as a Japanese company operating in Shenyang. Employees were dispatched as volunteer workers who helped runners and management staff. Also, 4,000 yuan was contributed.
We supported a Christmas event organized by The Chrysalis Performance Arts Centre for the Challenged reaching out to 25,000 Special children all over India. We have extended the support towards this initiative held in Bangalore with voluntary support from all employees to help coordinate and operate the “Christmas gift program 2008. Employees volunteered at a chess and billiards tournament held by Chrysalis, an NGO that strives to build environments where the mentally challenged can harmoniously interact with others. At the tournament, mentally challenged children learned and played together with other children, allowing them to feel less self-conscious and overcome stigma. To help a boy who lost his leg in an accident, we made a small contribution so that he was able to buy a prosthesis.
This is an international environmental preservation program that aims to plant 100 million trees by 2015 to slow down global warming. In India, all 28 states and 7 union territories are involved. In support of the program, we worked in collaboration with the Art of Living Foundation, to carry out tree-planting. We purchased 1,000 seedlings from the Forest Department, State Government of Karnataka and distributed them amongst all our employees. As members of a good corporate culture, we are now helping each other to nurture the planted trees, in order to assist in environmental preservation. ![]() Since 2002, the company has been providing support for students from families in financial difficulties.
