380 employees and their families volunteered to a clean-up initiative around the lake.
Understanding the importance of communicating with the community, the company holds meetings with local people on regular basis to discuss about measures to improve community environment. In response to requests from the local community, the company changed the color of the roofs of its buildings for antireflection, installed simple sound abatement shields. In addition, the company conducted anticrime patrols at night (from 0:00 to 5:00) in cooperation with local people for 11 days towards the end of the year.
Employees proposed to cancel the spring company trip and contribute the amount as donation to the victims of the earthquake. Together with this budget and the donation from employees, union, and the company totaled 150,000 yuan which was sent to Hangzhou City Red Cross. Furthermore, the company also made contribution to support Toshiba China Group companies' effort to support building temporary schools. In addition to active efforts in cleaning up the area around the factory, a range of efforts were made to reduce noise to allow local residents to sleep in peace. In questionnaires for local residents, almost all local residents answered that they were satisfied with the efforts by the factory. ![]()
Every month since July 2004, employee teams have volunteered their time at a local orphanage, playing with the children and preparing their meals. This year employees also started visiting the elderly. Some 86 employees participated, paying visits twice a month. To help keep nursing homes warm in the winter, the company contributed10,000,000 won to the Social Welfare Division of the Cheongwon County Government till 2006. And in 2007 supports for grand parent-graundchild house holds in cheongwon county.
Donates 20,000,000 won to the KBS (Korean Broadcasting System) as a year-end charity drive. Every day, all employees voluntarily clean the area around the factory during the lunch break period.
To support the incident of oil spill from a tanker, employees assembled spontaneously to help clean the seashore. Donated 200 liters of kerosene per household to 42 households of fatherless families in the region to be used as boiler fuel (8,400 liters in total) Donated 1,300 commemorative towels to an event aimed at promoting communication within the local community through showing respect to the aged. The company contributed 300,000 yuan and employees contributed 28,352 yuan for the victims of the earthquauke in Sichuan. The Chinese government's efforts in promoting environmental protection and awareness are slowly having an effect on the public at large. As part of the company's own promotional activities in these areas, employees clean up the area near the factory. Contributed to a Fund for Physically Handicapped People, and a Fund for the National Sports Festival of China, and contributions were also made to improving local safety by donating money to set up police boxes. Cash donations were given to support efforts related to the earthquake off the coast of Sumatra and disasters due to gas explosions in the region. 77,000 yuan was contributed and donated in total during the campaign.
HTTW employees visited the Xiayun Elementary School in the rural part of Taiwan to communicate with the children. They also donated school management funds, foods, and other necessities to school. Employees clean up the local community as part of the Clean up the World campaign, a worldwide environmental initiative. Employees cleaned an area near company offices, in 2007.
7,800 yuan was donated to the Red Cross. To celebrate Children's Day, we made a donation of 13,000 Baths to school along with stationery goods and snacks. The children were from disadvantaged families and they were pleased to receive gifts of brand new pens and pencils. We have collected used aluminum cans (7.6kg) and donated them to the Prostheses Foundation of H.R.H. The Princess Mother for producing the components used in prostheses. We have collected 1,432kg of used paper and donated it to a local recycling service. We took part in the initiative of turning off the lights just for an hour to combat global warming, and turned off the Toshiba neon sign. To provide employees and their families and friends with a good eco-related educational opportunity the company arranged two eco tours. One to Ocean Park and the other to Natural Marine Park. Participants were able to learn about marine life and about the importance of conserving nature. Materials are to raise employees' interest in endangered species, interesting plants and animals, and protection of environment. These materials are in series and can be accessed on intranet. To raise environmental awareness among employees the company launched EP slogan competition. The theme of the slogan is energy saving, reducing waste and recycling in the office. Winner of the competition will get a prize and the winning slogan will be posted in the office as eco-friendly campaign. In addition to contributions from employees, the company contributed 347,000 yuan to the victims of the earthquake through the Development District Charity Society. The amount was the expense planned to be used for a company trip on its anniversary. All of the new hired employees volunteered in the clean-up initiative.
In 2008, TIP invited 79 “Special Children” (physically and mentally challenged children) to the factory to join in the Christmas festival so that children can feel the real essence of Christmas. Gifts were given to all children and their families to enjoy. Another gift was to provide children the skills to turn scrap materials into useful everyday items. This skill can be useful to them to earn a living in the future. This project also played an important role in sharing the spirit of giving and caring to the special among employees.
Donated TV sets and educational DVDs (science/mathematics) to 10 local public elementary schools, and a total of 4,200 books and learning materials to 24 elementary and five junior high schools, with the aim of improving the level of education for children in the Philippines. Donated deep wells to two local elementary schools to provide hygienic water sources for them. The goal of this activity, which is planned to continue, is to equip all public schools in the area with a deep well by 2015, by developing two wells per semester.
The Toshiba Scholarship Award is aimed to assist competent but financially disadvantaged high school students from Binan and Sta. Rosa to obtain a college or vocational/technical education. The program also contributes to manpower development in the Philippines.
100 Toshiba notebook computers were donated to support “GILAS,” a program promoted by Ayala Foundation. GILAS promote computer literacy among public high schools in the Philippines, aiming internet access to all students in 5,789 public high schools. It also aim to equip the teachers with basic knowledge on computers.
Since 2006, we have been providing free annual medical services to residents of disadvantaged areas. This year, a total of 413 people benefited from these medical examinations and medicines.
So far, we have planted a total of 10,000 trees within and around the premises. This year, aiming to expand our green activity, we taught our employees how to plant and look after trees correctly and distributed seedlings amongst them. Under “Philippines’Protected Forests,” TIP has signed a Memorandum of Agreement with the Philippine government over 2-hectare of forest area in Mt. San Cristobal to maintain, replenish and monitor the planted seedlings for 3 years. To help the victims of the Guimaras oil spill and to rehabilitate the area, the company held a Eco-Run fund-raising event for many employees and business partners to participate. Combining employee contribution and company donation of 300,000 Filipino pesos are donated to the Kythe Foundation every year. Participated in the Eco Forum, hosted by the Philippine Regional Economics Committee, and made presentations to other participating companies about the company’s waste treatment programs and effective pollution prevention measures. The company has been conducting environmental program to local schools since 2004 to raise awareness and to help initiate environmental protection activcities within the community. The purpose of this campaign is to let people know how they should dispose properly of household toxic waste that can pollute the environment. Since 2006 employees bring broken fluorescent lamps and used batteries from their homes. TIC supports World Vision's child sponsorship program which provides children and their community with food, healthcare and education. TIC provides training to educate young people to develop their technical skills. The training is provided to two trade apprentices a year and one university undergraduate every six months. TIC offered 1,000 CSIRO club memberships to Australian school children. CSIRO is one of the largest research organizations in the world and its club membership entitles the children to science magazines, special events and visits to science laboratories.
Food and presents for New Year, collected or purchased with the contributions made by employees, were donated to the People's Food Bank at St. James' Settlements. A total of 20 old mobile phones were donated to the Recycling Program of a local social welfare organization, the Salvation Army Hong Kong and Macau Command. TIPH has decided to always keep its office temperature at 23 degrees, contributing to protecting the environment.
By making a donation of 60 Hong Kong dollars or more, employees can wear their favorite clothes to office on the Special day. With the full support from employees, 4,970 Hong Kong dollars were collected and was donated to the Chest this year. Since 2006, as an environmental measure, employees sent electronic Christmas cards this year instead of paper cards. The resultant about 3,000 Hong Kog dollars in savings was donated to a community chest. Clothes and books collected by employees were donated to the communities and schools in underprivileged areas. TIPH has made a Christmas financial contributions of 5,000 Hong Kong dollaras through the Community Chest to support seven social welfare organizations which provides “Child Care & Child Protection Services.” TIPH employees formed in three teams participated in a hike initiated by Green Future. The proceeds from this initiative will be used to fund local green education in schools and the community, and thus help to build a greener future.
A program designed to help teenagers learn about the importance of protecting nature was implemented with the assistance of the Women's Federation and Party committee in Xuhui District. Twenty teens from underprivileged families were taken to Changfeng Ocean Park, where they learned about environmental protection issues, especially in reference to marine habitat. To assist them in their studies, they were also given school materials.
Participated in the charity dinner sponsored by the Organization for Oncology and Translational Research Limited, and donated 12,000 Hong Kong dollars.
In 2007, among the items donated toward the construction of the Toshiba Hope Elementary School in Yudu, Jiangxi, were 522 desks and chairs, fax machines, learning materials and a sofa. The president also donated approximately 150,000 yen, earmarking it for teachers'accommodations, entranceways and canals. All employees participated in a tree-planting exercise on the north side of the wire factory and LPG station-planting a total of 456 saplings. Donated a total of about 3,000 yuan to help earthquake victims.
Clean-up activity is regularly held at the area surrounding the factory with 40 to 50 participants. Local elementary schools and governments are given tours of company operations to promote regional economic development, community relations and open dialogue with local residents. A total of 26 employees gave blood in September 2008; this figure rose to 31 in January 2009. We sold 1,200 lighting fixtures at a specially discounted rate to the elementary and middle schools affected by the Sichuan Earthquake.
Every year employees collect donations on Children's Day to support the local elementary school. This year 146 employees raised 2,122 yuan, which was used to buy fitness equipment.
A tree-planting initiative was carried out to raise environmental awareness among employees. Some 38 employees joined the president in the planting of 25 tiger's claw trees at a local park. Donated useless aluminium from process of production for producing leg prosthesis for amputees. Used phone cards are donated to the Foundation for Children with Disabilities. Some of hard-to-find cards are sold off to the collectors and the rest are transformed into different kinds of hand made product by families of children with disabilities to sell. Twice a year, we conduct a blood drive.
An employees teaches Japanese to high school students, university students, and business people as volunteers.
Since 2004, more than 300 employees have been supporting local education by making personal contributions deducted from their salaries. The contributions were used to cover the costs of textbooks, writing materials and school uniforms of the 63 students of a local elementary school, and for the monthly aid to four teachers. In addition to financial support, employees participated in volunteer work to reconstruct the toilets, paint buildings and to repair the volleyball court at the request of the school. The company and employees donations of 35,592,700 rupiahs were contributed to assist flood victims in the Jakarta and Bekasi areas. The funds were used to provide essentials such as food, blankets and clothing. With the help of local officials and the Karya Medical Hospital, a temporary clinic was also set up, allowing victims to be examined by doctors free of charge. Contributed 50,000 yuan and provided venues for baseball and ping pong games. In collaboration with Pharmaplus, we made gift boxes and wine bags using old Christmas cards. The proceeds from selling them were donated to the Singapore Association of the Visually Handicapped. In support of an international modern art exhibition, the Singapore Biennale 2008, we provided LCD TVs and other Toshiba products for the event. We also provided Toshiba laptop computers for the parade on Singapore National Foundation Day. Finally, we donated three Toshiba laptop computers to The MILK Fund, which supports financially disadvantaged children and juvenile crime prevention programs, to be auctioned in their fundraising event. We also contributed 6,000 Singapore dollars in cash.
Created a character called "T-chan" to raise environmental awareness. n 2008, 10,000 yuan was donated to the China Youth Development Foundation to support their activities helping elementary schools affected by the Sichuan Earthquake. The donation was sent to the Red Cross Society of the Republic of China to help with their activities supporting the victims of the Sichuan Earthquake. In order to support the education of the deaf-mute school in depressed area, 100,000 yuan was donated for purchasing special equipments of language training. In order to help provide educational opportunity to underprivileged children in China, TESS makes financial contributions and in-kind donation to schools in China to help set up computer rooms.
TESS donated two MFP machines to Chengdu Research Base of Panda Breeding which support the conservation of endangered animals. Two baby pandas were named after TOSHIBA.

The company has been continuously supporting Wat Sra Kaew Temple School for all aspects of education since 1990. Not only the support of material goods and scholarships, employees get themselves involved in activities by spending time with the orphanages because they know that these orphans need love and care. Such activities include serving and having lunch with them, as well as singing and entertaining. Being a part of Thai society and always looking forward for a better social development, the idea of giving the opportunity and welcoming the unfortunates has been deeply imprinted in our working culture.
50 employees visited the Sirindhorn International Environment Park to take part in a tree-planting scheme. To reduce the odor and improve the appearance of the river, 200 employees collected rubbish and water hyacinth, which was growing proliferously in the area.
TTEI decided to give Xmas and New Year's cards to those children with disabilities. They try to draw along the pictures or make up a story from the cards which helps them to use their imagination. In honor of the King, whose birthday is celebrated on December 5, Thai citizens perform a good deed. This year the company decided to clean up streets. Even though it was a holiday, employees were happy to help the community.
To protect the environment and raise awareness of environmental issues, mango trees were distributed to employees, who planted them at their residences. Seeds from the new trees were then shared with local residents at New Year's. There were many natural disasters in Thailand this year. To help the victims, we donated clothes, blankets and medicines as well as making cash contributions to the Royal Rajapajanukroh Foundation. Thai Toshiba Electric Industries sent company medical teams to the Thai island of Pakret, which was devastated by torrential rains in October 2006. Using the local temple as a clinic, they examined local residents and handed out medicine free of charge. Used fluorescent lamps are collected for recycling, reducing the spread of hazardous materials and protecting people from exposure to mercury. By increasing the ratio of cullet to other materials, natural resources - in this case, silica sand - can be conserved.
In cooperation with National Council for Child & Youth Development, Thai Toshiba Group of companies held “Youth & Community Camp for Environment and Energy Preservation” at The Siridhorn International Environmental Park. The camp provided knowledge and understanding toward environment & energy, sources of supply, and energy consumption. The program contained Mangrove tree planting activity which students, teachers, parents, leaders from the community and employee volunteers participated in, and planted 1,524 mangrove trees which will help reduce carbon dioxide emission.
Thai Toshiba Group participated in a nationwide mangrove planting project that was carried out as one of the events to commernorate the 60th Anniversary HM The King accession to the throne. The Thai Toshiba Group donated about 1,800 mangrove plants (worth one million baht, which is equivalent to about three million yen), which 360 volunteers, including employees from Thai Toshiba Group planted in the Sirindhorn National Park over three days. To help promote engineering education, Toshiba Thai Foundation gives scholarship to support student for four years, from freshmen through senior year. 15 new students are selected each year and a total of 60 students benefit from this program yearly. Since 1989, Thai Toshiba Group of companies have promoted this project to support the education in Thailand. In 2008, 80 Toshiba dealers are appointed as members of the judging committee. Scholarship of 8,000 bahts were given to 50 vocational students and 10,000 bahts were given to 50 college students. And 20-inch color television was donated to 50 selected schools to be used in their classrooms. In collaboration with Toshiba dealers in Surin province, we have planted trees at a local park. Twelve employees from Thai Toshiba Group companies participated in a project providing lunch for the unemployed.The project originated from a suggestion by Queen Sirikit. Thai Toshiba Group donated 15,000 baht and 300 fluorescent lamps to the Thai Council of Social Welfare.
We have donated 2 million baht to the Elephant Reintroduction Foundation in support of their activities, which include the prevention of elephant poaching and the preservation of their habitat.
As one of the events organized to celebrate our 40th anniversary, we held a tree-planting walk rally.
The energy camp is held for elementary school children and junior high school students to teach them how energy should be exploited and preserved. Participants are requested to carry out the energy saving activity in their local communities. Supports projects to improve educational environment in Thailand. 2006’s projects included volunteer painting work on school buildings and giving cash donations to schools. Art therapy was held to provide comfort to the prisoners. An exhibition featuring works of the participants were exhibited at the Siam Paragon Shopping Complex in Thailand. Under this program, students from Chitlada Vocational School - set up by Princess Sirindhorn to raise national educational standards and help ensure future prosperity - are accepted into the company for training. Eleven students and two teachers took part this year, learning about Toshiba operations, products and technology, daily work routines and problem - solving activities. The students also received career guidance and hands-on experience. n order to reduce CO2 emissions, 300 compact fluorescent lamps were given to Pak Klong Ta Lad fruit and vegetable market to take the place of candescent light bulbs, a cause of global warming. Collects burnt-out fluorescent bulbs from administrative bodies and companies, in cooperation with the Thai Toshiba Fluorescent Lamp Co.,Ltd. Used fluorescent lamps are collected for recycling, reducing the spread of hazardous materials and protecting people from exposure to mercury. By increasing the ratio of cullet to other materials, natural resources - in this case, silica sand - can be conserved. Filuorescent bulbs and other lighting devices are donated and installed in schools and on streets where needed. Part of its sales of fluorescent bulb are contributed to the Silpacheap Foundation totaling to three million baht. Flluorescent bulbsare donated to temples that conduct funerals for the family members of the employees, in cooperation with the Thai Toshiba Fluorescent Lamp Co.,Ltd. Employees made cash contributions, donated blankets and dried food, and gave blood to help the Red Cross. Employees of the company and the TTLC donated blankets and other articles to people suffering from cold weather. And contributions from employees were given in support for landslide and flood victims. As part of CSR activity, TIM employees participated in the clean-up event along the river with the people from the local community.
As part of a program in operation since 2005, students are given a basic overview of the company, learning about EASTER (Environmental Audit System in Toshiba on the basis of Eco-Responsibility), environmental protection, and health and safety procedures. They are also given a tour of the factory, where they learn about the production process and environmental responsibility.
Part of the reward TLSH received from the Shanghai Software Association was donated to Shanghai City. In addition, TLSH planted China-Japan friendship cherry blossom trees in the Green Park,Luwan Districy. We donated a fundus camera to a new hospital built in the Guangdong province. In support of the Ministry of Health's free ophthalmological examination program, we provided examination equipment. TVCP Easter Committee organized a tree planting event to enhance awareness of environmental protection. Each section planted one tree with the board indicating section's name.
