For the past 10 years, on the occasion of the Noheji Toshiba Lighting gathering for local electric workers, anti-crime lighting systems have been donated to the local municipality of Noheji, Aomori Prefecture, where the company's operational site is based. This year approximately 50,000 yen, collected at the gathering, was donated for children's education in addition to donation of five anti-crime lighting systems, and the lights were installed free of charge. The popular event has spread to other areas near Noheji.
All of the five male employees take turns to do regular clean-up initiative in front of the Yokohama office.
At Hokkaido Denzai, 24,000 yen was collected from employees and then donated to the Foundation of Orphans from Automobile Accidents. Chiba Branch collected 11,300 yen from employees and then donated it to the Japan Committee for UNICEF.
Used stamps are collected and donated to charitable funds to send doctors and nurses to Bangladesh, Cambodia, and Nepal.
A corner of a local park has been cared for one year by the company, and the employees and their families are looking after the flowerbeds. They sometimes share the work with local senior residents or elementary school students making it a good opportunity to build close relationships with the local community.
As a part of after-school class activity, the company held a DVD disassembly workshop for local elementary school students to explore the wonders of electronics goods.
Employees and their families joined “Pink Ribbon Smile Walk” in Tokyo hosted by Asahi Shimbun Company aiming to promote the importance of regular breast cancer screening.
Internship was provided to a student from Watarida Junior High School in Kawasaki City. The student learned the technology and history behind the Internet.
Osaka branch participated in the “Clean Osaka” campaign promoted by Osaka City, and cleaned the area along the railway line in Midosuji for 500m. Tokyo branch have cleaned a park in the neighborhood.
At the request from the city, participated in the event for five years.
Cooperated with Toshiba Kitakyushu Operations in donating the amount of 100,000 yen as costs for food and medical treatment of animals kept at the “Totsu-no-Mori Park” in Kitakyushu City.
All employees of the company (400 people) participate in the clean-up activity after work, in which they get rid of weeds and picked up garbage and empty cans around the premises and the path to the nearest railway station. This activity is carried out every August, when weeds grow at a faster rate, for over 25 years since 1981, to make visitors and local residents feel comfortable.
Towels are distributed to homes for mothers and children in the prefecture through the Gunma Welfare Council for Single Mother Families and Widows.

Proceeds from miscellaneous fundraising activities (including the collection of used postcards and telephone cards) totaled 10,889 yen. Together with other donations, this resulted in a 30,889 yen donation to the Minsai Center Japan. The funds will be used to send a Cambodian child to school for three years.
In many places, the company has provided a safety campaign to demonstrate the correct way of using elevators and escalators. A new DVD created for children was chosen to be the designated video by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology and was distributed to kindergartens in Japan. The company also helped the Hayashida Elementary School in Himeji with a class on the electric magnet motors used in elevators.
The clean-up initiative, which is usually carried out every month in the headquarters and Shikoku Branch, was joined by every branch and sales office across Japan in the CRS Month. A total of 302 employees participated in the event during the month, and enhanced their awareness of the importance of CSR activities and environmental preservation.
Established in 2004, the CO2 Diet Declaration is an environmental initiative that seeks to conserve energy, reduce CO2 emissions and fight global warming. Individuals and businesses alike can participate. As part of its participation in the initiative, tree saplings are donated to schools according to the number of participants.
Employees at Toshiba Elevator and Building Systems Corporation Kyushu are conducting various collection drives with the aim to contribute to the society by doing something easy every day at work. Collected pull tabs were donated to Thailand through Seitan Jyuku of Western Japan International Interchange Association as the funds to make prosthesis for people in need. Proceeds from selling a total of 12,000 used stamps and 120 prepaid cards were donated to a volunteer organization for buying wheelchairs and their activities to support people with disabilities. We also participated in the “Send vaccinations to the world's children by PET bottle caps” campaign promoted by AEON Kyushu, and donated a total of 5,400 caps (worth vaccinations for 6.75 people).
Employees of the Tokyo Branch and each of the related factories participate in collecting used postage stamps, prepaid cards and green marks, and donate them to social welfare organizations.
THE EARTH,”we donated a total of 10kg of used disposable chopsticks and also 14kg worth of pull tabs to the STV Television Broadcasting office in Hokkaido. The pull tabs were sold to raise funds for purchasing wheelchairs.
Each site under the Kansai Branch collected 4.7 kg of pull-tabs of empty cans, and sent them to the Liaison Council for Environmental Pollution Control. The total volume collected up to this time is 114 kg (800 kg equivalent to one wheel chair).

Employees regularly clean the area around each office, as well as stations, parks, rivers, beaches, and care center for children in the neighborhood.
In order to enhance the awareness of environmental problems, 16 employees participated in the cleaning activity at Shodo Island. The purpose of this event was to protect the habitat for marine life and to prevent the contamination of the sea. They also planted olive trees along the coast.
Financial commodities related to environment are promoted under the slogan “econnovation” a word invented by combining environment and innovation. Also, since June 2007, the company has been distributing bags of flower seeds to participants at events and the number of bags given away has reached 130,000.
Taking the opportunity of its 65th anniversary, Fuchu Operations promoted a campaign for social contributions activities, aiming for the participation of all employees.
Every year, We provided plant tour for a total of 1,200 people from elementary to college students. Shows students around the production sites of locomotives and elevators, and introduces them to the Complex’s environmental protection initiatives, such as recycling and energy-saving activities.
In a health-promotion initiative that began with the men's Fuchu City Rugby Club, employees act as rugby coaches for elementary and junior high school students.

Got involved in the planning and implementation of recycle promotional events hosted by the NPO Fuchu Recycle Promotion Association, to increase public awareness of the importance of waste reduction and recycling.
Fuchu Complex and group companies jointly collects contributions. The sum of 177,005 yen was donated to local welfare organizations and for good causes in 2006.

A total of five 2nd grade students from Daiku Junior High School visited the company and experienced some work.
Cooperated with the local junior school in their program of "plant visit" so that the students could experience life at the company firsthand and develop respect for working. Accepted students from other junior high school to teach about heavy-duty electrical operations at the energy control unit's manufacturing department.

Illuminated signboards (three points at each gate) are turned off for two hours at a night to cooperate with the Light Down Campaign, which is aimed at prevention of global warming.
In 2007 a clean-up program was added to the employee family walk health program. Participants picked up trash on sidewalks as they walked the six - mile route.
During the period between December and March, ten clean-up days were organized during lunch breaks and a total of 400 employees joined the event. They picked up rubbish from sidewalks and flowerbeds around the office and collected a total of 49.2 kg burnable rubbish and 50.7 kg unburnable rubbish. Clean-up is also regularly held after office hours.
Appeales for understanding of and cooperation in waste reduction, by participating in the street-corner campaign for “strategy to reduce waste by 10,000 tons” promoted by Fuchu City.
An event was held in order to deepen mutual understanding with local residents. Opinions were actively exchanged, and local residents observed the environmental facilities in the Operations.
Held a family day event for families of employees and local residents. At the event, a booth was set up to collect used items such as books, CDs and DVDs. Collected items were later sold off to a used book shop for 7,750 yen. This amount was donated to JEN, an NGO. A rugby game between Toshiba & Suntory was held during this event as well.

With the aim to promote the understanding of fuel batteries for domestic use, we exhibited information panels and gave a lecture to the visitors at a local event.
Provided fuel cell models to the Chiba Museum of Science and Industry as exhibits, while offering support for the running of the Museum.
A lecture was given by an employee on fuel batteries for domestic use at a seminar hosted by the Wakkanai Alternative and Renewable Energy Study Group. It was aired on FM radio and an article about the event was featured in the newspaper.

Commemorating the 40th anniversary, Toshiba Fukaya operations held Toshiba Summer Festival to communicate with local residents. Japanese drum player who is active in Fukaya, and teams of Yosakoi-soran and kids aerobics performed on the stage. A local folk song group and Toshiba employees practiced to perform their original "So-nan Ondo". 157 employees worked as volunteers, 15,000 guests enjoyed the festival.
In 2008, around 17,000 visitors enjoyed science workshops, and other activities.
Executives from the factories and Group companies within the premise participated in a cleaning activity with their staff and with people of the neighborhood to clean the area around the factories and car parks.
At the request from the science club of the Yoshimi elementary school in Kumagaya City, employees visited the school and gave a lecture to the students. Students learned the difference between liquid crystal television and CRT-based Television, as well as the high quality of the high definition video. Students also learned and practiced how to disassemble and assemble a liquid crystal television.
The ground and the gymnasium within our factory premises were opened to a local baseball boy's team for their practice before a tournament.
An employee gave a lecture to the students from the Faculty of Geo-environmental Science of Rissho University. The lecture was on the measures taken at Toshiba Group and at Fukaya Operations of environmentally friendly manufacturing process.
