Thailand Toshiba Group announces "Doraemon" as a symbol of Toshiba product
advertising in commemoration of its 40th Anniversary

Dec 19, 2008

Bangkok, Thailand - To commemorate its 40th Anniversary in 2009, Thailand Toshiba Group will start featuring prominent Japanese character "Doraemon" as a symbol of Toshiba product advertising in its advertisements for refrigerators, washing machines and other home appliances, LCD TVs and notebook PCs. At a press conference held in Bangkok today to announce Thailand Toshiba Group's 40th Anniversary and Doraemon as a symbol of Toshiba product advertising, "Doraemon" made an appearance at the event and the company's products were also introduced.
The advertisements featuring "Doraemon" will mark a start for Thailand Toshiba Group's upcoming 40th Anniversary publicity in all domestic media such as television, newspapers and magazines.
In March this year, the Japanese Foreign Ministry had named "Doraemon" to be the first "Anime and Culture Brand Ambassador" of Japan. Through "Doraemon", Japanese animation would be known overseas and various aspects of Japanese culture can be introduced to the rest of the world, thus extending "Doraemon"'s exposure overseas too.
Since the first publication of the "Doraemon" comics in 1981 in Thailand, and the subsequent television broadcast of its animation in 1982, "Doraemon" became widely known and is greatly loved not just by children, but also adults of all ages. The values of "Dreams, Hope, Surprises and Emotions" which the character Doraemon values is in line with the values embodied in Toshiba brand's universal tagline "Leading Innovation". This is the main reason why Thailand Toshiba Group chose "Doraemon" as a symbol of Toshiba product advertising.
Since establishment in 1969, Thailand Toshiba Group has focused on expanding its business in the Thailand home appliances market. Currently, Toshiba Thailand Group has more than 9,000 employees including its non-consolidated subsidiaries, with total sales of 160 billion yen. Toshiba Thailand Group hopes to continue maintaining a stronghold in the Thailand market, and aims to achieve a 10% growth rate yearly.
