Commercialization of Long-Life Phosphoric Acid Fuel Cell Stack

Abstract

Toshiba has developed a 670 kW cell stack assembly (CSA) for electric utilities as well as 200 kW and 500 kW CSAs for on-site use, representing the fruit of 17 years of efforts for the development of fuel cell technology encompassing cell components, cell design, and the cell manufacturing process.@ Fuel cell power plants using these CSAs are now successfully operating at many sites.@ Many of these plants have exceeded 20,000 hours of operation, which supports the projected operation goal of 40,000 hours for commercialization.

This paper reports on our recent activities to achieve long cell life, higher reliability, and reduced costs, and the results achieved.
