Introduces Four Brand Names for the Worldwide Market

TOKYO -- Toshiba Corporation today announced that it will further strengthen its market-leading range of portable PCs with the new models from entry-level to high-end notebook PCs, and state-of-the-art sub-notebook models. Marketing starts from today in the U.S., European and Asian markets, including Japan.

As the world leader in portable computing, Toshiba offers the widest selection of notebook and sub-notebook computers on the market. The Toshiba product range supports experts and beginners alike, with functions, features and options to suit every need. Individual brand names for each segment will now allow users worldwide to easily identify Toshiba portable PCs in the high-end, mid-range, value and sub-notebook categories, as follow:

Satellite brings users unbeatable value-performance in fully-featured notebook machines at an excellent price.
Satellite Pro offers mid-range notebook machines with powerful multimedia functions.
TECRA represents Toshiba's top-of-the-line notebook models. TECRA computers are function and feature rich, with computing power to match and surpass that of desktop machines.
PORTÉGÉ extends Toshiba's capabilities into the sub-notebook segment of the market.

In Japan, continuing a tradition dating back to 1989, when Toshiba lauched the world's first notebook computer, the model name in each category will be prefixed with "DynaBook".

All products are backed up by the portable PC industry's most experienced company and a worldwide warranty system. The unified specifications behind the new names allows Toshiba to extend the scope of its International Limited Warranty, so that users of Toshiba portable PCs can now receive free repair and maintenance service in selected countries during the initial year of purchase.


The Five New Models In Brief (Japanese Models)

    DynaBookSatellite 110CS/810: Runs on a Pentium (R) 100MHz processor; incorporates an 11.3-inch Dynamic-STN color LCD with SVGA resolution (800 x 600 dots) and 810MB HDD. Meets wide-ranging needs from the home to the office.

    DynaBookSatellite Pro 420CDT/810: Features a Pentium(R) 100MHz processor, a 6-time-rotational-speed CD-ROM drive and an 11.3-inch TFT color LCD with SVGA resolution. Multimedia support includes PC-card slots supporting a Zoomed Video (ZV) port, a 'SoundBlaster Pro' sound chip and built-in microphone and speakers.

    DynaBookTECRA 500CT/1.3: Pentium(R) 120MHz processor, PC card slots supporting CardBus and ZV port technology, and PCI chip-set for hot docking to a desk station. This new high-end PC has a 12.1-inch TFT color LCD with SVGA resolution and a 1.3GB HDD.

    DynaBookPORTÉGÉ 620CT/1.3: Pentium(R) 100MHz CPU, 10.4-inch SVGA TFT color LCD and 1.3GB HDD.

    DynaBookPORTÉGÉ 650CT/1.3: Cutting-edge technologies in a high performance PC. The world's first sub-notebook with a Pentium(R) 133MHz CPU. Also has PC-card slots supporting CardBus and a ZV port, an 11.3-inch SVGA TFT color LCD and 1.3GB HDD.

    The worldwide portable PC market is expected to grow 26% this year to 10.75 million units. In the Japanese market alone, sales are expected to reach 2.4 million units, a 43% increase over last year. Toshiba's continued development of innovative new models, including these five latest PCs, will assures the company maintains its number one position in the world market.
