Toshiba Renews and Enhances Portable PC Line-ups 17 June, 1996

Individual brand names for each segment will now allow users worldwide to easily identify Toshiba portable PCs in the high-end, mid-range, value and sub-notebook categories, as follow: Satellite brings users unbeatable value-performance in fully-featured notebook machines at an excellent price. In Japan, continuing a tradition dating back to 1989, when Toshiba lauched the world's first notebook computer, the model name in each category will be prefixed with "DynaBook". All products are backed up by the portable PC industry's most experienced company and a worldwide warranty system. The unified specifications behind the new names allows Toshiba to extend the scope of its International Limited Warranty, so that users of Toshiba portable PCs can now receive free repair and maintenance service in selected countries during the initial year of purchase.

DynaBookSatellite Pro 420CDT/810: Features a Pentium 100MHz processor, a 6-time-rotational-speed CD-ROM drive and an 11.3-inch TFT color LCD with SVGA resolution. Multimedia support includes PC-card slots supporting a Zoomed Video (ZV) port, a 'SoundBlaster Pro' sound chip and built-in microphone and speakers. DynaBookTECRA 500CT/1.3: Pentium 120MHz processor, PC card slots supporting CardBus and ZV port technology, and PCI chip-set for hot docking to a desk station. This new high-end PC has a 12.1-inch TFT color LCD with SVGA resolution and a 1.3GB HDD. DynaBookPORTÉGÉ 620CT/1.3: Pentium 100MHz CPU, 10.4-inch SVGA TFT color LCD and 1.3GB HDD. DynaBookPORTÉGÉ 650CT/1.3: Cutting-edge technologies in a high performance PC. The world's first sub-notebook with a Pentium 133MHz CPU. Also has PC-card slots supporting CardBus and a ZV port, an 11.3-inch SVGA TFT color LCD and 1.3GB HDD. The worldwide portable PC market is expected to grow 26% this year to 10.75 million units. In the Japanese market alone, sales are expected to reach 2.4 million units, a 43% increase over last year.
