TMPR4937XBG-300

Tokyo -- Toshiba Corporation today announced the addition to TX49 family of MIPS-based microprocessors. The new microprocessor TMPR4937XBG-300, is based on a TX49/H3 core, which is fabricated with 0.13-micron process technology and operates at 300MHz. It allows almost 1.5 times greater operation from previous generation 200MHz model. It integrates a comprehensive array of interface controller, including Peripheral Component Interconnect (PCI) controller and Direct Memory Access (DMA) controller, supporting simple small system design and high processing speed of digital electronics devices, including digital televisions and network printers.

In addition, its design integrates CPU with large capacity cash memory for instruction memory and data cash memory up to 32K-byte respectively, supporting highly efficient processing and high speed performance.

Samples of the new microprocessor are now available at 6,000 yen. Mass production will start in February 2003 at 100,000 units a month.

Toshiba believes the new microprocessor meets the demand for higher-performance processor along with advancing functionality and processing capabilities of digital TVs and network printers.

Main Features

  • Integrates latest 64-bit core CPU, TX49/H3, which is fabricated with 0.13-micron process technology and operates at 300MHz.
  • Incorporates large four way set-associative cash memory (32K-byte instruction cash and 32K-byte data cash) which realize increased hit ratio, supporting higher performance.
  • Incorporates PCI controller and DMA controller in a single chip.
  • Incorporates SDRAM controller, UART, Timer, Interrupt controller, realizing single chip solution.
  • Incorporates a debug support unit (DSU). It sets a breaking point in system operation to check the flow of user program and the value of each registers, supporting real-time data analysis.
  • Offers pin-compatibility with previous model TMPR4927ATB-200, allowing current users to develop greater-performance application on the same circuit platform.
  • The introduction of Reference board for testing will follow the sample chip shipment.
