TOKYO -- As part of on-going efforts to support Tokyo Electric Power Co., Ltd. (TEPCO) in securing the safe and prompt recovery of Fukushima Nuclear Power Stations, Toshiba Corporation (TOKYO: 6502) will provide 45 audible alarming pocket-sized dosimeters to TEPCO. The Babcock & Wilcox Company, Toshiba’s partner in the nuclear power business, will also provide TEPCO with 744 waterproof work suits used in chemical plants and other facilities that can be worn over radiation protection suits, through Toshiba.

In order to address the incidents at the Fukushima nuclear power plants, Toshiba has formed a task force comprising some 800 engineers at its Tokyo headquarters, its Isogo Nuclear Engineering Center in Yokohama and other facilities. The task force also includes members of The Babcock & Wilcox Company and The Shaw Group, Toshiba’s U.S. partners in the nuclear energy industry, and with Westinghouse Electric, a Toshiba Group company. This team is now gathering and analyzing information 24/7 and developing solutions.

Following requests from the Japanese government and TEPCO, the operator of the Fukushima power plants, Toshiba has dispatched more than 140 engineers to Fukushima, who are currently stationed at the sites of Fukushima Daiichi and the nearby Fukushima Daini power plants, and a total of about 400 personnels are supporting various activities at Fukushima. They are providing vital technical support and working on joint development of solutions. Toshiba will reinforce these resources as required.
