In addition to the printed version, a digital version of the report can be downloaded from the Toshiba Environmental Management web site at the following URL:http://www.toshiba.co.jp/env/en/report/.

The report includes the following key sections:

1.   Highlights

This section includes a message from the CEO; an introduction to "Environmental Vision 2050", Toshiba Group long term vision for raising its environmental efficiency by a factor of 10 by FY2050 compared to the FY2000; a progress report on the Environmental Action Plan[1]  to achieve the goals of Environmental Vision 2050; a look at the overall environmental impact of Toshiba Group; and Toshiba's measures to promote biodiversity.
Highlights also covers measures taken in response to the Great East Japan Earthquake; energy efficient products and services; energy-saving efforts at Toshiba Group's offices and plants; the opinions from four experts on how the March earthquake affected the values of people; and trends in the social system and lifestyles.

2.    Greening of Process

Toshiba Group aims to achieve the world's lowest level of environmental impacts in manufacturing through mitigation of climate change, efficient use of resources, management of chemical substances, responding to environmental risks and recycling end-of-life products.

3.    Greening of Products

Toshiba Group is increasing the number of environmentally conscious products (ECP) by defining "eco-targets." These specify targets that must be met to achieve the highest level of environmental performance and certify the products that meet those targets when they are launched as "Excellent ECP." The section reports the results of creating ECPs and the environmental benefits in respect of mitigating climate change, making efficient use of resources and effectively managing chemical substances.

4.    Greening by Technology

Toshiba Group contributes to provide stable power supply and works to slow climate change through low-carbon technologies. The Group has also supported the early restart of thermal plants devastated by the March earthquake and contributed to the early stabilization of Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant. In working for a low-carbon society, the Group focuses on Smart Community in respect of local power supply, water, transportation, information and medical care infrastructures.

5.    Green Management

Toshiba Group promotes continual efforts to improve environmental management and communication as "Green Management," the basic concept underpinning Greening of Process, Greening of Products and Greening by Technology. Measures promoted include basic policies, management structure, assessments, evaluations, awards and environmental accounting, provision of information through the Environmental Report and environmental advertising, communications with stakeholders and external evaluations.

Toshiba Group Environmental Report 2010 took prizes in the 14th Environmental Communications Awards, held under the auspices of the Ministry of the Environment, and in Toyo Keizai Inc's 14th Environmental & Sustainability Report Awards.

Environmental Vision 2050

In order to contribute to sustainable global future as one of the world's foremost eco-companies, Toshiba Group's Environmental Vision 2050 aims to increase overall eco-efficiency tenfold by FY2050 compared to the FY2000 level.
Toward this goal, Toshiba Group practices environmental management that promotes harmony with the Earth and contributes to the creation of richer lifestyles based on the concept of the three "Greens": Greening of Process (environmentally conscious manufacturing), Greening of Products (environmentally conscious products), Greening by Technology (energy and environmental technology), and Green Management supporting them.

Toshiba Group positions "eco style" as a global brand that both accelerates and highlights its approach to environmental management.
