IHI Corporation (IHI, headquarters: Koto-ku, Tokyo; President and CEO: Tamotsu Saito), CTCI Corporation (CTCI, headquarters: Taipei, Taiwan;Chairman and CEO: John T. Yu), and Sumitomo Corporation (Sumitomo, headquarters: Chuo-ku, Tokyo; President and CEO: Susumu Kato)with Steam Turbine / Generator supplied by Toshiba Corporation (Toshiba, headquarters: Minato-ku, Tokyo; President and CEO: Norio Sasaki) have been jointly awarded from Taiwan Power Company (Taipower) the contract for engineering, procurement and construction of two Power Generating Units with Power Block Buildings and Facilities at Talin Thermal Power Plant to replace existing facilities at the plant. Commercial Operation Dates are scheduled in 2016 for Unit 1 and 2017 for Unit2.

Based on Taipower Long-Term Power Development Program, part of existing power generating units shall be demolished and replaced with two ultra-supercritical pressure coal fired boilers which output is 800MW each in Talin Thermal Power Plant located in Kaohsiung District in southern Taiwan.

IHI will be responsible for supplying boilers and for technical and commercial leadership of the consortium. Sumitomo will be responsible for civil and installation work of steam turbines, generators and other auxiliary equipment supplied by Toshiba. CTCI will be responsible for supplying the balance of plant and executing civil and installation work for boilers and the balance of plant.

In order to fulfill the increasing electricity demand stemming from economic growth in Taiwan, and to make power generation more environment friendly, Taipower plans to establish, expand and renew large capacity thermal power plants with higher efficiency and lower CO2 emissions than subcritical-pressure power generating systems. The ultra-supercritical pressure coal fired boilers to be supplied by IHI for the Talin Thermal Power Plant will improve plant efficiency remarkably by operating Toshiba's steam turbines and generators at ultra-high temperature and under ultra-high pressure. Less environmental impact will be feasible by such high efficiency operation with less CO2 emissions.

IHI, Sumitomo and Toshiba have extensive experience of construction of thermal power plants overseas. CTCI is the largest engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) firm in Taiwan. The four companies will continue efforts to complete Talin Power Plant Renewal Project and devote efforts into coming thermal power plant projects worldwide in the future.
