Toshiba Reinforces Social Infrastructure Business in Southeast Asia

New company in Thailand to promote regional based total solutions
across social infrastructure businesses

TOKYO—Toshiba Corporation (TOKYO: 6502) today announced that it has established a wholly owned subsidiary in Thailand that will be responsible for enhancing Toshiba Group's presence and capabilities across comprehensive range of social infrastructure businesses in Southeast Asia. The company, Toshiba Asia Pacific (Thailand) Co., Ltd. will promote operation in Thailand, Laos and Cambodia's social infrastructure sectors and promote Toshiba's participation in major industrial projects. Toshiba Asia Pacific Thailand starts operation today.

Spurred by economic and population growth and modernization, the social infrastructure business in Southeast Asia, especially the Mekong economic region, is expected to expand significantly in coming years. Governments in the region are expected to channel over US$ 1.6 trillion into infrastructure projects from 2010 to 2020, in areas that include energy, such as the construction of power plants and transmission and distribution systems; transportation networks, such as road and railways; and the promotion of smart community projects. High economic growth rates, dynamic population growth and demand for systems and equipment are expected to spur continuous growth in the social infrastructure sector.

The new company and an enhanced presence will allow Toshiba to take part in large projects, including smart community projects integrating smart grids and other advanced technologies that draw on the capabilities of plural Toshiba Group companies."
