Advantages of Ozone Treatment

  • 1 Ozone is a powerful oxidant, stronger than chlorine. Therefore, ozone is used to disinfect, deodorize, decolorize and decompose organic substances in water. Ozone is also used to prevent trihalomethane formation in water.
  • 2 Ozone molecules are unstable in water, decaying to ordinary diatomic oxygen. Therefore, ozone systems have low impact on the environment.
  • 3 Since ozone generators need only a feed gas and electrical power, ozone can be generated on-site as necessary without any need for transportation or storage.

Principles of Ozone Generation

Silent discharge produces a large volume of ozone efficiently.
It continuously occurs without sparks when a high alternating-current voltage is applied between two electrodes placed parallel to each other through a dielectric material.
When dry air or oxygen flows between the electrodes, oxygen atoms(O) are ionized, and ozone(O3) is formed by recombination of ionized oxygen atoms(O) and unionized oxygen molecules(O2).
